Do you hope to get smaller than your goal? Why or why not?

Recommended Posts

This topic couldn't have been posted at a more prevalent time as I'm struggling with this conversation daily in my family. I am large boned and 5'4 1/2 weighing 160 with ample bust (34DD) that hasn't shrunk w/ my weight loss. My original goal was 150lbs. I think I hide my weight well because everyone, I mean everyone says that I shouldn't lose anymore weight and I'm skinny. Never in my life would I consider myself skinny but part of that could be that I still see the old self in the mirror. I think I'm at a point where I want to be out of the "obese" category when I step on the scale and at 5'4 1/2 (yes, I'm claiming the 1/2) and at 160lbs I'm still considered obese. Like the original poster, as the weight has come off I've become more obsessed and thought, why limit myself on how small I can get. So, to answer the original post, yes, I would like to be a size 0; however, if you asked my friends and family they would tell you I should stay where I am and be happy.

Have you asked your NUT?

Not really because I don't like her and I haven't done the research yet to find someone I do like.

Sizes have changed so much since I was my smallest at 17 (35 now) that I have no clue what size I want to end up as. I know with vanity sizing my daughters vintage Calvin Klein size 8 skirt from the 80s is the same size as her size 2 and 4 that are new. All in all, I just want to look "normal" and healthy, to be able to shop pretty much wherever I want and to feel pretty.

I agree! I have no clue what size I want to be as clothing manufacturers have tweeked the sizing so much in the last few decades. I have a size 12 Calvin Kline jeans from 1995 I kept as my inspiration jeans. I measured the waist on them last week and they are the same measurements as what a current size 8 would be! Size 0 and 00 didn't exist when I was at my smallest! I guess this is all in an attempt to make us feel better about ourselves?!??

@@Time1989 - I workout at least an hour a day 5-6 days per week. I add in toning which I'm sure is the most major reason I got so small, besides the fact that I'm much smaller framed than I originally thought. Even being in such small sizes I am still "thick" so I have no worries that I'll ever get too skinny.

@@TheCurvyJones - Good point. As someone who is going on my 4th year post op I have been through a whole lot more than anyone who is newly sleeved. So much changes happen year after year and the 3 year post op gain is a reality. Not only that in time our faces fill out where once they might have looked extra thin. Our fat cells seem to redistribute to areas of our body once were off balance from other parts of our body. Good luck!

I can't speak for anyone else but myself, and yes I do. I opened a savings account over the weekend to have reconstructive surgery in a few years.

Not everyone has massive excess skin.

However, I reckon anyone who is my age (just turned 50) has lost and regained weight many times AND lost over 160# will definately have excess skin issues!

However, i had plastics and excess skin is good except my thighs are still jiggly (I didn't get the long thigh lift) and I do have side boobs so I need to be careful how I dress. This is me taken 2 days ago. That is a juniors sized swimsuit because I had issues in the "misses" department. Boobs are too big and I am too old for the string bikinis and they don't make the more modest styles to fit a 36-37" hip (skinny ass)... so I went to the juniors section.

I didn't imagine getting lower than my goal I just wanted to get to my goal. Surprisingly I'm 10 lbs below my goal and I'm very happy.

I've lost some perspective on all of this lately. I'm 8 months out and weigh about what I did when I felt I was "normal" about 20 years ago. Maybe 5 pounds more? It's hard to know. I'm in a size that I'm comfortable with (like some of you though, the 10-12 I remember is probably a 6-8 now, so being in a 12 now is probably more like a 16 then.) I feel pretty good. I'm getting stronger, not where I want to be at the gym yet, but overall so much better. My surgeon's office says I can consider myself a success now. And I think, objectively that is probably true. I'm past the average amount of weight lost.

My arbitrary goal here is a 149, because that puts me in the "normal" BMI range. My surgeon's goal is anywhere from 160-165. I never thought I would get to this weight and feel like I had SO far to go, though. That is what is strange. And I do feel that way from both a fitness standpoint and a numbers standpoint. I think (I hope) the numbers are less important though.

I know this has to be on everyone's mind, their final results. I did get very, very small post op VSG. I got down to a size 0... though my goal was only to get to a size 8. I said I'd be happy to be out of the double-digit pants (a very far cry from my largest size 28W!!) and honestly never imagined even getting that small. But I did and I blew right past a size 8. I kept telling myself that I never wanted to get too skinny, but I won't lie - the smaller I got the more I liked it. It's no secret I've gained some back, but now that I'm back on track I know I won't mind getting back into my size 0's again. In fact I have them hanging up outside my closet ready to be re-worn. I'm not that far away, time passes and pounds melt away. How do you feel about getting "skinny"? Do you want to? It's okay to be open about it, we're all thinking the same things believe it or not. No matter which surgery we've individually had, we do all share majority of the same shames and struggles as each other. B)

Wow!! How long did it take for you to get that small? I keep stalling and it's driving me crazy!! I am 7 weeks post op and down only 37 pounds. I'm trying to guess what size I will be in October my son is getting married... I bought a size 16 dress and almost fit into it.

This is a problem I have every day. Next month I will be two years post op vsg. I was 250 dos and now am 158. Before this I said I wanted to be 150 in a size 10, I'm 5'6"... Today I'm 158 in a 4-6... But for some reason I can't get any lower, now I want to be 140 because I still have a muffin top and some skin issues so I still feel fat. If I get to 140, I'll be a medium frame for my height , but I don't know if ill ever get there...

I think it is just excess skin.... can't be fixed by getting skinnier, only plastics or just getting over it fixes that problem.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
