Congratulations. Let us know when you are on the 'other side' as we call it. FYI, having the band implanted was the best decision I ever made and I was not keen on it at all. I've gotten my life back and that's no exageration.

See ya on the banded side of life! Best decision I ever made!! Remember to get up and walk walk walk. Have lots of ices on hand for after surgery a nice ice pack to put on the port site incision that typically the area that hurts the most after surgery. A heating pad for your back/shoulder to help ease gas pains if you have them, and warm broth or Decaf tea also helped me with this and any nausea you might feel. Another great tip is to sip using a tea spoon or a medicine dose sized cup so you don't take too large of a sip which can be uncomfortable going down after surgery, and my final tip of the day, the best way to get rid of the dry mouth or "cotton" mouth after surgery is to brush your teeth as soon as you can get up and use the bathroom. It gets you up on your feet and walking and trust me it helps get rid of that rough feeling cause they only give you a few ice chips at a time :)

Best of luck to you!!

I was banded last Friday, 5/16. I found the first 2 days were not much of a problem - only had left shoulder pain. Could drink the liquids, no hunger. Day 3 & 4 were more of a challenge. Had a few episodes of nausea, but came through it. Now on Day 6 I am feeling much better and having no issues with food. Shoulder pain still there but gets better each day.

Our surgery dates are only a few days apart, so I am sure we can share stories and give each other support along the way. Good luck tomorrow!

Hi there and congratulations on choosing yourself and your healthy future -- it's such a powerful thing! I am six months out and so very happy. There is a kind of relief I did not anticipate, the relief of not having a food battle going on in my brain all the time. Should I have this, am I on or off, am I hungry -- I had no idea what hunger even felt like as I was such a mess from years of dieting. Happy to have a healthy sense of that now and when I'm hungry I eat (but when I'm not I don't and therein is the miracle for me!). Good luck tomorrow -- we have all been there and to tell the truth now I can hardly even recall the discomfort. The walking is definitely where it's at, along with the positive attitude which you definitely have. Best wishes and welcome!

I second what everyone else said, dont forget a chapstick and a BiG bottle of Water. It took me the whole day of drinking liquids to get rid of the cottonmouth I came out of surgery with. Im sooooo glad I was banded, it literaly gave me my life back. Hope all goes smoothly tommorrow for you !

Didn't go as planned. I have my band and port in but my liver was too large to fasten the band. So I'm on a diet for 3 weeks and then back in to fasten the band. Prayers please.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
