What to eat on "full liquid" fase?

Recommended Posts

I'm one week out today, done with Clear Liquids and starting tomorrow full liquids. Question: besides Protein Shakes what can I have? My discharge papers doesn't say too much besides I would appreciate suggestions from you guys. After one week of just Gatorade, Water and chicken broth I need some substance without compromising my baby sleeve. ; )

I ate alot of Tomato Soup and split pea. And drinkable yogurt, puddings, Jello, Protein shakes....4 long weeks of full liquids. I was ready to eat my arm by the time I could eat actual food. If I could blended up my arm and drink it from a straw, I woulda!

My experience with Dr Fernando Garcia and Ready 4a Change was absolutely PERFECT. I cannot put in any other way. From the beginning very easy and fast communication with the company here in the US thru Alma, to the day I set feet down here in Florida back again. Everything they said they would do and everything I expected they delivered with great professionalism and human touch. When I got to San Diego airport, the driver Samuel was there already. We crossed the border and he took me to Marriott Hotel, where I experienced a Marriott quality stay first night. The coordinator Irene came to welcome me at the hotel and to tell me I was not alone (I went alone). She answered all my questions and eased my doubts. Next day I was timely took to Oasis Hospital - small, but seems a well and full equipped hospital - and clean, very clean- where I was greeted by Eduardo, who took me to my private room (with one extra bed for companion, a recliner and private bathroom). Nurses checking on me all the time. They gave me the stocking socks and a pair of slippers. Right after that Hector took me to the lab for all tests. After that Dr Garcia came to my room and spent a long long time just answering my questions and giving me a lesson about the surgery - can you feel the human touch do far??? - My surgery was much easier than what I had anticipated. No gas - none, no pain, nada. I felt a little discomfort coming out the anesthesia but other than that I felt like I slept for 5 minutes and woke up sleeved. I didn't feel any pain on my stitches. I might have a high tolerance for pain, idk but I didn't feel any worse than coming out of 100 belly crunches in a typical afternoon at the gym. I spent two nights at the hospital taking all the ivs , antibiotics, pain medicine etc and nurses coming to check on me on the clock. Dr Velasco came to visit me and again spent a long time talking, answering, teaching. She removed my drain ( first ouch for me ) and my staples. She had the same surgery and she looks great. They discharged me and gave me a bag with all the medication and tests results, a cd with my leaking test and a stomach stuffed animal - I know it's not an animal but I don't know any other way to call a fluffy smily stuffed stomach- I asked for 2 of them because I have twins. They took me back to the Marriott where Irene was to greet me. I spent two nights taking easy, resting, watching tv, reading and talking to my twins on the phone (I used viber app) while sipping on the free chicken broth, gello and Popsicle as they promised. Hotel and hospital with Wi-Fi so I had communication with the rest of the world at any time. Besides hospital allowed me to make calls to the US at no charge. A day before coming back, I was felling pretty good so I took a cab from the hotel and asked the driver to take me to the mall to buy a gift to my twins. I went to Plaza del Rio. It's a mall with sears and everything. I asked him to pick me up promptly 1 hour later which he did.I spent that last night at the hotel when in the am they took me to San Diego airport. The border this time was very busy. It would take about two hours to cross it if the driver didnt have a special pass made for medical situations and it costs 20 dollars to the driver. So we could take the special lane to cross the border. Very fast. I was sorry about the people on the regular lane but well I had a major surgery and 20$ was paid. Back home I am following the instructions they provide in a cute folder together with the medicine and all. My stitches are great healing very well. Today May 18th I'm 9 days out and feeling just fine. Still struggling with the post op diet, but very glad my experience was perfect. I can't ask for more. Now it's on me for the success of my sleeved body. I'm up for any question. I'm going to copy and paste this answer and post it on the Mexico and self paid forum.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
