Recommended Posts

I was Sleeved on April 3rd. No problems other then the normal gas pains the first few days. Down 13 pounds, but getting frustrated because I haven't lost an ounce in 2 days. Isn't it to early for a stall?? Suggestions????

. I'm hungry as well!! chicken broth helps with that! I'm only getting in 1 Protein Shake and 20 ounces of liquid. I think once I can get down the 64 and the 2 shakes the hunger will subside. They say you feel more restriction with mushy food phase. eggs, creamed Soup.

Gabby5391 I also have a pain on right side and today was the first day I got hungry. I had mine on the 7th . I had 1/4 c of watery cream of wheat and I felt better after that.

I was sleeved 4/4. Stayed in hospital 2 nights due to an allergic reaction to dermabond or anesthesia. Once home couldn't down all required fluids and Protein. 9 days post op it's easier to get more down. My incisions were very itchy and inflamed yesterday. I thought I was going to crazy! Went to urgent care and was put on heavy duty steroids. They have helped my itchiness about 75%. I also asked for IV fluids due to being dehydrated. Feel good. No real pain. Drive today and took my daughter to movies. Also went shopping because Tuesday starts puréed and soft food!!!

I hope everyone is feeling stronger every day!!!

I'm down 17 pounds and thrilled.

Yea for us!!!!

They said I can't have stuff like that until I'm 15 days post op :( I had some broth and that helped. But also figured out if I eat every few hrs the hunger isn't too bad. Thanks for the advice tho

I was sleeved Monday, April 7th. The first 5 days my sleeve was swollen and I could hardly drink anything! I just sipped and sipped all day and I was so worried I would get dehydrated! by days 6 and now 7 I am drinking nearly all day! In fact I'm drinking so much I'm afraid that it may be too much! I don't want to stretch my sleeve in the first week!! and on liquids!!! Wondering if the sleeve is what I needed. ~sigh~

Also, the first 4 days or so I was an emotional disaster! I literally thought I needed to go to the psych ward! I'm not really sure why I felt so scared but thank God! I am finally back to myself. Note: I suffer from Major Depression Disorder (MDD) and Anxiety before my surgery so that also played a role in that situation I'm sure.

My 2 week check up is this Thursday and I will have a list of questions and concerns for the doc.

Walk, Walk, WALK!!! My nurse said that gravity plays a big role in our healing process. I'm not sure how but I walk a lot! and of course walking keeps your blood moving.

I pray you start to feel better quickly and can get some much needed rest. Take care <3

I was sleeved April 7 also and I can take in a lot of liquid too..I believe the liquid moves through your sleeve quickly and will not stretch it. I can get in 2 Protein Shakes, 2-3 16oz bottles of Water, 2cups of broth, sugar free popsicles and tea.

Hi I had my surgery on April 7th. Was in the hospital for 2 days. Was up walking around the day after surgery. I had a couple of problems. One breathing issues seemed like I could not get full breaths. The doctors office told me to use the spirometer 10 times an hour and to increase my walking. It has helped and I don't have that problem any more. I have been having gas issue with everything Water, Soup, Jello. Whenever something went down gas started and got trapped on its way up the esophagus. Sometimes it causes pain. Anyone experience this?

Hi. Sleeve was done on 4/7/14. Overall, my experience has been good. However, one rough spot has been tolerating whey Protein - found in my clear liquid Isopure drinks and main source of protein during the liquid phase. By day 3 I'd developed such a sensitivity to it, it would literally go in one side and out the other. After 24 hours I called my surgeon. He told me to switch my protein source from whey to animal. I was shocked to learn I should cook a bunch of chicken and purée it down to Soup consistency so soon! I could also try a scrambled egg. So far, tolerating these thing well, plus small curd cottage cheese and Greek yogurt blended to smooth.

Physically, I feel good. Today is one week out! I have no real pain except at one incision site when I move a certain way. That pain is wicked but super short.

Looking forward to feeling better each week!

I know I'm not supposed to rant and should just be proud of myself that I had the surgery and am changing my life... I'm just still frustrated that I'm in pain and that I ever let myself get to this place. I'm sick of hating the image I see in the mirror

When was your surgery? I know it's tough especially the first 4 days for me! I was a frantic mess! I cried and cried! I would wake up and cry! I thought for sure I was going to have to go to the psych ward! Day 5 I was much better! Is a new life and it will take time to get used to it. Just hang in there sweet heart. I'll be praying fit you. Try to think positive! (((Hugs)))

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
