If you're gonna try it, THIN CRUST!!!

Normal crust is so hard on the stomach, or it is for me.

So this past weekend we had family over and we ordered pizza. We ordered thin crust veggie from papa johns and I ate one slice and was full. One slice does it for me and it went down much better than regular crust. So def give it a shot.

What about "thin crust?" does that go down easier for gastric patients ? Before my surgery that's what I liked vs the thick because it's crispy but was wondering if I'll ever be able to eat thin crust again???

I always eat thick crust. Only one piece, spread over a few hours. I can't do more. However, this past weekend I had thin crust for the first time since WLS (9 years ago). I was able to eat almost the entire piece and then a few hours later another.

I still prefer thick crust.

At at 21 months post vsg I had a kids gluten free pizza at my work the other day and it was great! I work in an all organic green and gluten free restaurant and decided on pizza. An hour later I checked my bs and it was at 82 after 3 small pieces. Being type one I was excited! It was yummy and thin crust with a crunch.

wow! where do you live that there is such a restaurant??? sounds awesome.

Since the surgery, I can't eat much pizza. I eat the toppings, any maybe a bit of the crust. It fills me up fast, and I am forced to eat very slowly and deliberately. It isn't a slider food, so I find I am satisfied with about 1/10th of what I could have eaten before surgery!!

Sadly I over ate pizza tonight :-( I had a whole piece of pizza and half of a bread stick from pizza hut, PLUS the toppings off of another piece of pizza. I was so uncomfortable for a few hours. It was the first time I really over ate. I ate too fast ;-( I hope I learned my lesson. I'm 7 weeks out Monday. Please don't chastise me. I know I did wrong and I am going to do my best NEVER to do it again.

No judging here. I KNOW HOW HARD THIS IS! I made homemade pizza on low carb flat out bread tonight. I really wanted Jets deep dish but oh well! We live and we learn. It's easy to go one bite too many, way too easy. But life is better with a tiny tummy. Im 10 weeks out and I'm still learning.

No chastising here! I had almost half a piece a couple days ago and I'm only 3.5 weeks out. I took the meat off because it was a bit too tough to eat. It's prob a big no no but I'm on soft foods.....pizza is soft right? Lol. I stopped before I hurt myself but it would have been very easy to keep on eating then feel awful or throw it up. I can't believe how easy it is to overeat!

I know! My doctor is always reminding me the the sleeve is only a tool and I still have to control my diet and exercise. I have fallen but I will get back up. Good luck to you :-)

My sister got a stuffed crust from pizza Hut, I didn't eat the pizza part just the crust. I could almost finish the crust and I was way too full. Before I could have easily had 3 pieces. Now with the sleeve it's an amazing difference when I see how much I eat now and how much I used to pile in my stomach. So grateful for this tool, now I just need to focus on staying away from the carbs and exercising. I'm still struggling drinking enough and get dehydrated way too much.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
