I am Day 8 post-op and things get a little better every day. I am so thankful to have family helping me. I can now lay on my right side at bedtime but not on my left just yet. My diet consists of Water, Powerade zero, herbal tea, Premier Protein with a splash of milk and sugar free Torani syrups, crystal light, homemade chicken broth, sf Popsicles and no sugar added stage 1 applesauce. I found the lemonade crystal light to be to acidic for the moment but rasberry ice is pretty good. I also found some sf Jello to be to acidic. So I am holding up on those for now. I am on prevacid once a day. My upper stomach is still a bit bloated but when my husband took my binder off last night to inspect my incisions he was like Whoa! Your stomach is way flatter! You have to come look in the mirror honey. It was! That felt good. Doing pretty good on the Vitamins and reaching about 60 oz a day. Still only about 50 grams of Protein. It is very filling. liquid stool softener yucky! But I'm doing it. Scared of having my first BM (tmi) it's been about 9 days. So this is my experience thus far can't wait to here more from y'all.

My surgery went well today. Although I'm still very groggy. I feel like I've done 1000 crunches. The pain is there but not unbearable. I still havent pee'd yet, I feel the urge to pee but just can't. Doc said that's normal. Twisting and turning is hard but I find laying on my back with a slightly elevated head and feet is working well!! Off to dreamland I go again!!

Hello Everyone,

I had my gastric sleeve done on May 7th. I too also cleaned the house good, gave the dog a bath etc. With the Lord watching over me I did great with a few bumps. I bought premier liquid shakes because they were already made and bought them at costco you can also get the powder form in a HUGE bag for 40.00. I bought Sugar Free Chocolate pudding, Mott's green apple applesauce. Campbell's has an awesome butternut squash Soup. I loved Swanson's chicken broth I went to stage 2 a day after surgery because I didn't do well on the 1st phase. I have Protein Drink for Breakfast, instant cream of wheat alternating apple sauce, pudding and soup for lunch and dinner I'm lucky to do 2 1/4 tsp. I use the pudding to take meds it slides down easier. The one thing I miss the most is drinking as much Fluid as you want at one time. For further down the road has anyone tried making ice cream out of Protein Shakes. This might be a TMI but baby wipes for cleaning your bum is a blessing. Get the flushable ones.

God Bless

Kelly

Cupcake/MommaD - I'm with you! Ready to get this show on the road! Keeping busy so that I don't chew my arm off during this liquid diet phase :-) Today was cleaning out all the cupboards and fridge and organizing the containers I will use, putting Protein Shakes, poweders, Soups, gatorade away etc. Next Tuesday can't get here quick enough!

My nerves are starting to kick in like yours MommaD about drinking and eating after this. Will I go too fast? Will I not chew it thoroughly enough? All of the unknowns that we will learn by trial and error I guess. I just don't want my trial and error to include vomiting lol!

Keep in touch all!

Kelly:

I'm glad to hear you're coming along well! I have many of the things in the cupboards that you mention in your post. Here's hoping they work well for me too! I've done my part and am COUNTING on the Lord to do His thing! He's never failed me yet!

Hello, well I had the gastric bypass last Thursday May 8th so I'm 5 days post op. I believe I dumped today!!! Yesterday I was able to get all my fluids in and all my Protein so I was pretty excited. So today I was following my plan to increase my protein from 4 oz at a time to 8 oz at a time. Well 8 ounces went down fine no problems but I must have drank it too fast . About 10 minutes after I drank my shake I got very light headed/dizzy, sweaty, heart racing, and double vision . At the time I didn't relate it to dumping I guess because I was thinking that only happened with fatty and high sugar foods. But it passed after about 20 mins, afterwards I felt really weak for a couple hrs but I feel fine now. I hated the experience but I'm glad I'm learning this before I go back to work. This is definitely life changing. I can have creamy Soups, sf pudding, yogurt but honestly nothing tastes good to me so I've just been doing the shakes and Water. I tried Tomato Soup and a yogurt but they don't taste the same anymore. Anyway just please take it slow and listen to your body!

I am having gastric sleeve May 29th, I start my two week partial liquid diet in two days. I am really starting to get nervous and feel so ill prepared. I have no idea what I should take with me for after surgery, and what kind of food I should have at home for afterwards. I need a surgery buddy any takers :)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
