Frustrated!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I'm starting to feel frustrated and disheartened.

In 8 months I've lost 21kg (46 pounds) but have hit a massive plateau. 1kg lost since December.

It's gotten to the point that I'm seeing the Dr on Monday but I don't want to, but previously I've been excited.

I've upped my exercise and even gone back on those awful shakes for Breakfast and lunch and meat and veg for dinner. But nothing is moving.

Any advice would be great!

I've always read that a person needs to MIX things up. In exercise, it might mean doing one day of HIIT'S, one day for endurance, one day for speed, etc. In other words, keep the body guessing. I also have seen that you can do this with food and calorie intake..... For example, some people do carb cycling days, others do several low calorie days, followed by a high corie day, etc. shake THINGS UP.... and go see your doctor. You have nothing to hang your head low about.... You might be on a plateau, but you're NOT GAINING!!!!!!

You are going to have times when you don't lose. There will be days, weeks, months that you don't always lose. It's not about trying to get it off as fast as you can because they are the people who gain it all back. Relax no one is racing in this journey. It took me three years to lose all my weight so stop being discouraged. It took you a life time to gain it all it wont come off over night.

You didn't give much information about how many calories you consume, how much you weigh now, how much at the start?

A nutritionist visit might reap some rewards? That way you can sit down and give the nut all your pertinent information? A good hour long visit could lead to some nutritional targeting that may lead to fat loss?

The foods you consume for breakfast and lunch aren't stimulating your valgus nerve so your body may think you're starving it?

You could be replacing fat with muscle? Do your clothes fit looser? If you know for a fact that you're eating very few calories such as 900/day you could also force your metabolism to increase by eating 1600 calories/day for a weekend. This can wake up your metabolism if it's hibernating due to low caloric input?

Thank you for your replies.

I started at 143kg and I'm currently 122kg.

I'm aiming for 1200 calories per day and sometimes I'm under or over.

I suppose I expected a continuous loss and wanted to be 115kg by April.

It doesn't help that my brain is constantly worrying about all that can go wrong whenever I try to eat something.

I think my point was that if you're treating this like it's a diet by only consuming liquid breakfasts and lunches, you must be hungry and if you're hungry much of the time, your body could go into hibernation thinking there's no food?

Sorry to assume you're hungry, I just know if it were me, I'd be in pain if all I had were fluids twice a day?

But, you know, 21 kg/46 lbs is a lot and you are doing so well. Especially if you're firming up some?

I've seen so many people post as you did and then suddenly they drop 6 lbs in one weekend. Don't know where they were hiding that extra fat or fluids but somehow they just disappear. Keep on truckin.

Thank you, I have been struggling. But will speak to the doctor on Monday to see if there's anything I'm missing or maybe it'll be just an excruciating wait.

I went a month without losing but I was still in the middle of getting fills and going towards the green zone. because I didn't lose any wt. was a indicator for the doctor to do a fill.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
