WAY TO GO TAMMY, Love the idea of getting on the scale once a week, just not a strong enough person to do it. I jump on there every morning. Congrats on your weight loss, your doing a great job.

MRS. HUSKER, I am having the same issue with a dry throat. Sometimes its so dry I'll be talking and the words will just get stuck and won't come out. Never had a problem like that before and I am drinking plenty of water. Weird.

Hi! I have your been looking for a wonderful, supportive group for a little while now and you all seem fantastic. I am new to posting messages and I have been trying to learn the lingo... so I may ask a few Q's along they way. I love the idea of keeping us march bandsters together, so thanks!

I was Banded March 12th 2007. Dr. Darrin Hansen at SV Surgical Center, Utah. I have lost 19 lbs. My 1st week was horrible, but I am feeling great now! I need to learn to keep track of my calories & protien and exercise more. SparkPeople.com looks great and I joined them today. So I am on my way. Thanks, again to all of you and I will be back EVERY day!

Dr. Hansen did my surgery at SV surgical on March 19th! Your weight loss is wonderful--I've only lost 11 lbs. Sorry you had trouble your first week--it's great you are doing well now. I just signed up on SpakPeople.com because of your post--not sure how to do it yet but I'll spend some time and figure it out. There is a thread here at http://www.lapbandtalk.com/any-one-utah-t24480.html?p=434454#post434454 of people from Utah--I think most went to SV Surgical. They are really nice women and fun to chat with so check it out if you get a chance. Good luck to you--are you going to the seminar on April 14 at 10:00? I'm planning on it--maybe we can meet face to face. Ttyl!

Well it's been almost as week since the surgery. Everything was going great not a lot of pain or hunger...Then I got a cold in my lungs.....

I have asthma and so this got really bad and everytime I cough I feel like I am ripping my port off of my muscle wall. Yesterday I bent down to pick something off the floor and I felt the ripping and it hurt worse than enything I have felt throught the whole surgery. Now today I have a big swollen lump around my port. Has anyone else had this who is further along?:o

I have my post op appointment tomorrow so we will see what the dr says.

Congrat's on everyones success!! You are all such great insprirations! I am reading and rooting for everybody every day!:clap2:

I will be glad to go to the mushies I hope they let me go to it early. It is easy to find full liquids out and about that are sweet (smoothies, coffee drinks, juice etc) but I haven't discovered anything to have during the liquid stage that is portable and satisfies the salt craving. Any luck anyone? At least when you reach the mushies you can order some Soups or mashed potatoes!

Jack Sprat,

That sounds painfull. I hope all is well with your port. Last night I needed to adjust my wedge pillow and did a mini crunch and it felt like a muscle popped up and didn't go down for about 15 seconds. Scared the h**l out of me. It wasn't very painful, just weird.

Anyway, hope all goes well with your appointment tomorrow. Heck, I just realised, I have my post op check tomorrow also. Hope to get on mushies!!!!!!

I see the doctor tomorrow for my first post-op appointment; it will be exactly two weeks since my surgery. I'm advanced to soft food already!:clap2:

I even tried on some jeans I hadn't worn in months because I couldn't get them past my thighs, and today, I not only got them on, they fit perfectly!

Still, I feel like I ate a full Easter dinner on half a Lean Cuisine! LOL. So much for a fill...

Congrats Lori!!! I have some jeans that are one size smaller, but I havn't got the guts (or too much guts) to try them yet. If they don't fit, I don't want the dissapointment. Maybe in 5 more lbs I will put up a brave front and try it.

Lori'

Congratulation 's on the jeans. What a great feeling it must be.

I am still in my big jean's not sure why, people are saying my face looks thinner though. So all is good.

Up here in Michigan it is snowing:think, I soo want to be able to walk outside, it is soo cold. I know spring is just around the corner though:)

Walked about 45 minutes during my lunch break. I am on liquids until this evening when I can convert to mushies. When I came back in I drank some Protein stuff by bolthouse farms.. probably about 9 ounces or so and now my freaking chest is tight again. This is going to take some getting used to and I have got to learn to start SMALL and work my way up. I'm not bad like yesterday but this is fairly uncomfortable which means... IT"S WORKING after only one fill. Of course he said the fill can cause slight swelling which is why liquids for two days so It may relax up some but.. this is how it works. I was just kind of surprised because I have read a lot of comments about the 1st fill not really working. Maybe it's the size of my band and the fac that it only holds 4 thingies and he put in 2.2. I actually think I will bust out of 300 by the end of the month!!! ag_tongue.gif

HOLY COW!:faint:

I just got the statement from the hospital today for the total cost of my surgery, including hospital and medical costs, and all I can say is, thank goodness for insurance! The surgery itself was reasonable--$9,362.00--but the whole tab came for the 24 hour stay came to $26, 084.10!

yeah that is a true testiment of how much insurance companies get billed! I know that will be what my total tab is, (if not more) and that is exactly why I put my annual OUT OF POCKET MAX in an FSA account this year.

and my docs CASH price is: 15.5K

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
