Recent surgeries -- what is the FIRST thing you want to do at goal

Recommended Posts

This is a topic that's been on my mind for a while, and one of the driving factors leading me to WLS. I remember not too many years ago having the "full" life experience--hiking, taking family pictures, going on cruises, etc.--and not having to be ashamed of myself for any of it. Recently, I've withdrawn from most of those things and put my life on hold because of weight.

I've already decided that, about a year down the road when my weight loss makes me feel like a human being again and I want to dress up, get out, and walk, I'm taking the family for a trip to Disney World. I plan on having the full experience--rides, souvenirs, and of course, pictures taken to commemorate the event.

What, if any, is your big plan for when you reach goal? It could be 5K, cruise, or anything....

I want to ride on a motorcycle. I have always been too self conscious because of my fat butt, but I see a day I might actually try it!

On my vision board I have written on a post it 'when I lose 100 lbs I will jog through my community'. I live in a small town where everyone knows everyone so this will be a big accomplishment.

What is your big plan for when you reach goal?

Skywalker

when i had my surgery i was a few weeks shy of turning 58 years OLD

when i lost 100 lbs (5 lbs shy of goal) I became 59 years YOUNG

i had my awful looking 2 front teeth capped!!!!

i had 2 holes repierced on both ears that had closed up over the past many years

i decided to get them repierced :)

continueing in the mall that same day - i decided to have another piercing in both ears!!!! :)

then............here comes, get ready for it, drum rollllll........

I got my first ever tattoo at the age of 59 years YOUNG!!!!!

always interesting conversation piece !!!!

top of right wrist!!

M organ A ndrew E than

letters are in lovely, "tasteful" small italic print

- first letter of each of my grand-kids :)

afterall, remember, i am one proudgrammy!!

then 3 petite little red hearts under each letter :)

M stands for Morgan (13 yrs old)

A stands for Andrew (10 years old)

E stands to Ethan (6 years old)

top of right wrist

promised DH i wouldn't have another tattoo for the next 59 years!!! :D

they are the most amazing wonderful grand-kids in the whole wide world

except of course for all you other grand-parents with your wonderful grand-kids too :)

i promised my hubby i wouldn't get another tattoo for another 59 years :D

good luck with your upcoming surgery

speedy recovery :)

Kathy

I love it , I am going to steal - I am now 52 years young!

If I were to get a tattoo , it would have to do with the grandbabies also.

That is a good question, one that has me baffled. after my last big loss I ran marathons did triathlons, did several century rides on my tri bike, did mountain bike races, and bought my dream watch. Now I have a feeling of been there done that in exercise but I want to do something special. I used to turn to food related rewards but that is a habit I am working hard to break. I think travel is in my future.

This is a good point. A lot of times, we get so caught up in a hard goal it's hard to digest when we've crossed the finish line. Like finishing a master's degree, when the ceremony is finished and there's no more studying, you might pause and feel, "Now what?"

I remember back when I was on weight watchers, and it was actually working for me, I found I enjoyed the structure of WW almost as much as I did the loss. It's not that I still wouldn't enjoy the structure of WW today, it's just that there's no sustainable loss so it's just frustrating.

While on this topic, another thing I forgot--when I get to goal, I want to be able to go out and buy a couple things off the rack (including a stunning business suit for interviews) and actually wear them.

Oh there are soooo many things that I cant wait to do, but the most exciting thing I cant wait to do is to be intimate with my very best friend and boyfriend of 3 years. Sure, weve had our moments but I am the first plus size woman hes ever been with and although he has always loved me and stood by me my weight has always been the (pardon the pun) "elephant in the room" and it has created tension in our relationship... but still he stands by me. I cant wait to undress or dress in the same room or for him to put his arms around me and pick me up...I just cant wait to finally be out of this body Ive felt trapped in for so many years.

I think I am going to make my hubby do the lift from "dirty dancing". ;) The list is soooo long I can't even focus on one particular thing!

I know this may seem frivolous but I want my picture taken with Elvis. Every year I go to Graceland. You can have your picture taken with him, you have different poses to choose from. I've seen some of these and they look so real. Every time I go I say "I'm going to lose weight before I come back next time and I'm getting my picture with him". Maybe this year's Elvis week will be the time, that is if I can get past this stall. 3 weeks and no loss.

When you get this awesome pic this year, looking all skinny and stuff, be sure to post it as an NSV!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
