Heyy y'all! I have had my band for almost exactly a year and have lost 90 pounds so far. My last fill was on Jan 6th. The dr said I was really restricted at that time but I wasn't feeling a whole lot of restriction. She added just a small amt of saline (idr exactly how much, I want to say .4). Now, and for the last week or so I don't feel an restriction again. Out of nowhere I can eat a lot more food, and feel hungry more often. I am worried my band has slipped or I stretched my pouch or something terrible is going on in there. Today, right now, I don't feel too good. I can't tell if im hungry or my stomach is hurting. Its growling but idk. im confused, I really don't like not knowing what my body is telling me. I also have been burping for about an hour :( I wont be be able to get in to see a doctor for abt 3 weeks. I had sushi last night, and the left over this morning. I normally don't eat rice/bread/etc. but im weak for sushi. I hadn't had it in a few months, so I thought maybe that's what has me feeling weird today. If anybody has any insight on this, I would really appreciate it!

Thanks guys!

When things get weird for me, I'll go all liquids for a few days....soups, shakes, and very, very soft mushy foods......

But I do have restriction, I do understand my band and the little signals I get....I can tell when my pouch enlarges a bit.....also, I am unable to eat rice....like you said, if I get weak for something like that, I will pay dearly....

I do not think you have a band slip....

Sounds like you're experiencing the infamous, hated, but mostly unavoidable fickle band restriction. You really need to talk about it with your surgeon, but since you have to wait a few weeks to see her, I'll give you the benefit of my own experience (plus my medical degree from the University of Nowhere).

First of all, the sushi. I love it (and sashimi) too, but sushi rice is even stickier than long grain rice, and sticky stuff is not band-friendly. The fact that you've been burping for an hour tells me that your esophagus, band, and stomach can't deal with it right now.

Secondly, I've had fills take 2 weeks to kick in. It would be so nice to have your body respond to fills in a predictable fashion, but your body is subject to dozens of processes that can affect your experience of restriction. Like hydration, medication, illness, allergies, stress, time of day, time of month, etc. etc. etc.

I have a suspicion that your body is giving you some hints about your last fill and you're just having some trouble interpreting them. That's not a criticism. I've been there, done that. So I suggest that you lay off the sushi and pay very close attention to how you feel before, during, and after you eat until your next appointment with your surgeon. If at any time you experience reflux, night cough, regurgitation, stuck episodes, sliming, foaming, or other symptoms and eating problems that disrupt your life, call your surgeon. If you experience severe chest pain and/or cannot swallow liquids, call your surgeon and then go to the nearest ER.

I know what I just said must sound scary, so my next piece of advice will sound contradictory. Take a few deep breaths and remember that stress (including the stress you impose on yourself through worrying) almost always makes everything feel worse.

Do you like sashimi? My son makes a lot of sushi and I'm having to say no now -- time for us to up our culinary game (and fish sourcing) to make sashimi instead as that rice is just too sticky. Hope you feel better today!

B-52, what tells you that your pouch has enlarged a bit? After my last fill, I'm getting some weird signals like the original poster of this thread. Sometimes, I'll feel a bit of pain right at the bottom of my sternum.....where the band is. Not excruciating pain, but definitely something. It doesn't last for long periods, but I don't know what to make of it. There are some other weird things, too. I'm curious to know what you feel when your pouch needs a rest.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
