A little weight gain and freaking out

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 months post-op. Lost 35lbs since surgery and 40 on my own.

Two weeks ago, oh happy day, family doc took me off Metformin(diabetes). Also had my first fill that day.

I have a bad habit of weighing everyday. So imagine my surprise when one day I gained a pound. Didn't panic, probably just Water weight. Well 2 days after that I was up a total of 3lbs.

I am doing everything by the book. Weighing and measuring. 800 to 1,000 calories a meal. Getting all my Water and Protein. Exercise 5 days a week. Cardio and weights.

The only thing different is I'm of the metformin. Talked to my nurse. She said this could be the culprit and not weigh and not to worry. Well I am worried. I went so far as to have my husband hide the scale.

I thought being taken off the medication was a good thing. I'll get it figured out.

My question: has anyone else had this problem?

Sounds like you're doing fantastic, and have had great success so far! Congrats!!

If the scale is bringing you down, stay off it. I weigh myself every day, but I do it just to keep myself accountable...I had to learn early on that I can't let it dictate my mood, or discourage my progress. It's not unusual for my weight to go up (sometimes as much as 5lbs), and stay there awhile, especially around my time of the month. I just up my Water intake, and that weight always comes right back off.

You're doing exactly what you need to be doing! Just keep it up, and the weight will continue to come off ;)

i am on insulin and metaformin. this month i gained 3 lbs. i am horribly upset because i too follow all the rules. my doctor was unconcerned about the wt. gain. she said i have other things to worry about. tomorrow i am having 3 different tests. a barium swallow, a upper gi and a mri on my abdoman looking for the reasons i have a mass and that my gallbladder ducts are dialated. so i feel for you and i would imagine that any change in medication can cause a wt. gain. i think you will even out but keep a eye on your blood sugar for the next couple of weeks. it should stay below 120. good luck

I weigh myself everyday, usually twice a day...when I first get up, and later at the gym.....

First, I have to say my weight loss journey has stopped 2 years ago...I am at a optimal Body fat %...there is nothing left to loose other than lean muscle, and that would be unhealthy.

I say that to set a baseline......

Weighing myself everyday, I have noticed how normal it is for my weight to rise and fall within the same 5 lbs...everyday it is something different, can even see it change throughout the day....

IU can be 3 lbs up fro yesterday, then tomorrow I'm down 2, next day up 1, then down 4...

I say this because all too often I see people getting upset over 2-3 lbs here and there...IT IS NORMAL....there is NOTHING WRONG.....

You have to look at the big picture...believe in the band, live by it's guidance by eating right and differently, and your body will adjust by dropping the weight....

So great to be off of two meds! Do a little dance and get that scale out of the house. You are going to drive yourself nuts.......

girl on my TOM i can gain up to nearly 10 pounds of Water

talk about a OMG moment.......the scales move up and down all day long

JUDGE your success on your inches lost (clothes getting big or need to buy a smaller size)

that is a true and accurate show of losing weight....its reality.

to gain weight you must eat more calories than you burn off

3500 calories is a pound ate or drank...

GREAT job on the weight loss so far

i bet the inches you lost are amazing...see for yourself :)

I personally don't weigh every single day ( I'm not suggesting this for everyone..... Just sharing my personal experience). I got rid of my scale because I didn't like (and couldn't handle) those daily fluctuations. Now I weigh only at doctor's visits--- about every four to five weeks. Then I usually see a several pound weight loss. If you are the type of person who understands daily fluctuations and who doesn't let it affect your outlook, then weigh on a regular basis. If you are the type of person like me, who lets the number on the scale affect your days outlook, then put away the scale. But, back to your original post, I'm pretty sure that certain medicines have lots of different effects on our bodies, and temporary Water weight could definitely be one of them. Hang tight... You are doing great!

Me too. I'm back down today. Tomorrow I may be up again by 3-5. It's weird and I know I don't eat very much. But that's the new normal. Don't worry.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
