Feeling mixed emotions.

I'm a month out and so far everything I eat I have been able to tolerate. I've got to the point where I'm sick and tired of Protein Drinks. Yesterday and today Ive been having a pain that comes and goes next to my belly button I think it's from gagging because of the Protein drinks. I've tried different ones and they all make me gag. So yes I've been eating Greek yogurt with fruit (that comes with it) cheese, tilapia, mashed potatoes, Protein Bars, and sliced turkey. I emailed my nutritionist asking when I can eat edamame's and drink milk she told me to worry about protein and veggies will come in when I'm on solids. On my doctors plan I'm on soft solids and it says to slowly add things I've had over steamed broccoli that was fine. I'm just confused over soft solids and solids. Sorry I think I'm just having one of those days. I had not felt like this all I just feel a little down. Don't get me wrong I'm glad I had the surgery I've been losing weight. I'm scared to eat different things. I'm feeling lost today lol. Sorry for the rant.

I would think that soft solids are things that pretty much melt in your mouth, and are easy to digest. Refried Beans, where as "solids" might be green Beans, or other things that might challenge your staple line and new surgery.... Take it slow... you will be eating almost anything soon enough. At 4 weeks, I would keep it pretty soft. At 7 you can eat almost anything. I could not eat raw very well for many months... salads, apple peals, and dairy made me sick until around 4 months...

The stage between purrees and solids can be frustrating. On my soft food stage, for Protein, I was having mashed up meatballs, tuna, egg salad, scrambled eggs, poached or soft boiled eggs, greek yogurt. Since these foods sat heavier initially I had small bites equaling a few spoonfuls, I tried to focus on Protein instead of foods like potatoes and cream of wheat. Some fruits/veggies gave me more gas initially so I waited a little while for them and only in small portions. powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup was a staple early on and I keep some handy now too. High protein, warm and savory.

How many grams of protein are your shakes? I liked to get in the most I could so 2 shakes would exceed my protein for the day. To make my protein drinks more interesting I add PB2 powder or some sugar free Syrup (peppermint being a fav) Keeps it interesting for me.

JerseyGirl...I am having the worse time finding the right temp for the unjury...I think I'm making the Water too hot...what do you do? Thanks

I purchased an infrared thermometer off Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Etekcity%C2%AE-Non-Contact-Infrared-Thermometer-Temperature/dp/B00837ZGRY/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1390506240&sr=8-4&keywords=infrared+thermometer) for about 12 bucks at the time, it let me know how hot the liquid was. Once I figured out how long to microwave it, it was easier. Anything over 140 degrees will make it clumpy.

I'm 7 weeks post-op & I can tolerate most foods. Salads are fine as long as the veggies are not super crunchy (raw carrots) & I omit celery (too fiberous), even though celery is one of my fave foods! I stay away from mashed potatoes because I LOOOOOVE them but they do not love me anymore :(

Unjury products are great! I use the cheese sauce over steamed broccoli. Greek yogurt is my hero! I can always get that down no matter what. I have to admit that I have given in to temptations a handful of times. My boyfriend made pancakes the other day & I ate half of one. But I paid for it for about 45 mins with pain & discomfort! I also ordered a toasted bagel with light cream cheese without even thinking on my way to work one morning and after my second bite that horrible feeling happened & I had to suffer at work for almost an hour!

Also, the other day & started to get a horrible headache at work & my coworker poured a small cup of regular caffinated soda for me & I sipped it slowly. My headache went away but my tummy was quite upset with me for a while!

Deli meats are fine, a small 4-6 oz glass of milk works wonders for any tummy upset & trouble sleeping, hard boiled eggs, tuna salad, chicken, fish, etc. I also love GNC Total Lean Protein shakes: 25 grams of protein & they taste great.

I miss things like an English muffin with my egg whites or a comforting PB&J sandwich with a glass of milk, but the scale numbers keep me very focus, motivated, & happy!

It really comes down to trying things to see how you handle them. I was never a big fish eater, but with all the great recipes out there, I have fish 2-3 times a week! And plain, non-fat Greek yogurt can be used in place of mayo & sour cream in evreything!

Oh also, I was always a guzzler of natural fruit juices (OJ, apple), but they make me feel horrible for a super long time! Too much suger, even though it's natural sugar from the fruit, it's just too much and I feel sick to my stomach & dizzy for the rest of the day even after one sip! Plain Water, G2, diet Snapple, tea, Crystal Light: the only way to go for liquids!

At a month out, I relied on scrambled eggs and fat free refried Beans topped with some cheese - they set well on my stomach. I also had to do 3 shakes a day in order to get the daily requirement of Protein - I ended up buying some Health Wise hot chocolate (www.mybariatricpantry.com) That saved me - it has less Protein, but when I could not bear another shake, it was a Godsend!

I'm 10 weeks (today) now and the shakes don't bother me like they did a month ago. They are just a part of my day - I have two per day now. I just change up the flavors and textures.

You don't have to drink the Protein shakes to meet your Protein requirement but at 4 weeks, I also wouldn't be eating protein bars and potatoes. Even if you think you are tolerating them well your stomach and staple line is healing. High protein soft foods are 1% cottage cheese, plain non fat greek yogurt, eggs, tuna fish, tilapia, cream of chicken and split pea Soup, injury chicken soup, turkey chili. These items were my main foods for the first 7/8 weeks. I did have protein drinks for the first few weeks but you don't have to rely on them if you can't stand them.

Good Luck!

I usually have a Protein Shake in the morning before I go to work then another one later in the day each is 30grams so in the shakes alone I'm getting 60grams in Protein. I'm getting tired of them I force myself to drink them. Up to know everything I have had to eat so far has settled right with my stomach. I'll be five weeks out on Sat I've noticed a good amount of weight lost. I could see my collar bone =). Thank you all for your responses and suggestions. I just felt overwhelm today I think because I've been really focus then I get this email from my nutritionist so I just felt a little confused with soft solids because of what my nutritionist told me and what my doctors list says there totally different and what to eat. I just don't want to "ruin" this or fail. Thanks for listening guys and all the comments.

JerseyGirl...I am having the worse time finding the right temp for the unjury...I think I'm making the Water too hot...what do you do? Thanks

stick your finger in it. If you can comfortably keep a finger in the water for 5 seconds then it is ok for the Protein Powder.

...or use a candy thermometer (watch your fingers!).... not over 140 degrees. I have a electric kettle that has a way to set the temp. I use that.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
