Hi from Ireland!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. :( I have only read up to page ten of this thread and was wondering why Dr Jerome no longer practices in Dublin? I have actually booked a consultation with him in Belfast this Fri (eek!) and was told he worked in Paris but I was pleased to see he worked in Dub as this would be handier for me.

Anyhow in case noone saw my introduction on the other board, I'm Lyn, 26 and have been fat most of my life. Been seriously trying to get the weight off since last year (lost 3.5st on Lighterlife) but didnt 'refeed' properly and piled it back on. Been thinking of surgery for about 18 mos and I really think it's my only option now. :(

Really enjoyed reading your posts. :clap2:

Hi Lyn,

There is a lot of controversy in Dublin at the moment about ACS doing the band ops in a cosmetic clinic. The General Medical Council have revoked Jerome's licence down here as they feel he was doing a high risk procedure in a clinic as opposed to a big hospital. So until that's sorted out Jerome can't work from Dublin. Jerome is an excellent surgeon and one of the best at keyhole. He has performed 300 operations in Dublin in the past 18mths or so and 3 of his patients needed further treatment in a hospital. That's a damn fine record by anyone's standards. There is always a risk with surgery any surgery no matter how routine it is. Jerome in my opinion and that of quite a few of his bandsters that I know, has a great understanding about obesity and will treat you with respect and dignity. I'm delighted to hear that he is back in Ireland albeit it Northern Ireland and I hope he'll soon be back in Dublin. We miss him.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the posts and keep us posted on your progress. Good luck with your journey.:(

well thank you,Coco! that is a great and clear explanation(even if it is a bit yuk!!)you're great!

I DID phone Kim at ACS here in Cork (patient coordinator v.nice) and she said that Dr Jan is still trying for an operating theatre to work out of.Perhaps the delay is for the best if he gets it more organised. He was talking to me about seeing a Nutritionist and a Phycologist as well as trying to set up support groups-so all that would be very positive.

Thanks girls for all your help!!

Hi Penny,

Your welcome:). I'm impressed that Jan is talking about a Nutritionist and a Psychologist that's terrific will it be included in the 10K or will that be extra? It is no problem to set up a support group if you have the support of ACS. We were looking for their assistance and input when we tried to set up a support group earlier this year but we got the opposite to support from them.:( That's why its great to have this thread on this site. Keep posting.

wow Coco - didn't realise you guys were trying to set up a support group. Bummer that the clinic weren't supportive of that - and surprising.

Anyhoo - glad to hear everyone is in good form and working away at the weight loss. I am stuck at 24lbs loss for at least a week and I felt great until today when I suddenly craved bread (which I have given up with no bother for ages) and chips (which I never really ate much of in my life).

What do you guys eat every day?

Coco has asked me to let you girls know that her laptop is sick and has gone for a stay in PC World!!! So she will be off line for the next few days. So don't fret, she'll be back banging out those tip bits next week.

Thanks very much Coco. I'd actually googled and got basically the same info as you gave me and thought as I read it wasn't as scandlous as I thought it was gonna be.

I cancelled my consultation on Fri because I still haven't made up my mind what to do. Paris is too far to travel back and forth for fills. Hopefully he'll be back in Dublin soon and then I can decide once and for all.

BTW congrats on your weightloss! Fantastic. :P

Hey Nikki,

Delighted to hear that your friend is doing so well. I didn't know the ops were going ahead at all so I'm pleased that they are back up and running even if it does mean a trip to Paris. Of course the fills would be done here but are they being done in Belfast or Dublin. Also where does that leave Dr Jan? Is he going to be doing them in Dublin or what? Its all a bit confusing. I wonder does Jeromes licence being revoked mean that he can't work in any capacity here in the South? I wish ACS would clarify the situation for us so we knew where we stood.:)

:)Hi Girls,

How's everyone doing, you're all v quite. I hate when our thread goes off the first page as first timers looking for Irish people may not be able to find us.

Allure thanks for passing on the message, as you can see I got the computer back quite quickly.

Anyway, my news, I decided as I've lost 4st9lbs that I would go and have a proper fitting for a bra just to see how these puppies have suffered through the weight loss. Prior to the band I measured in at 42E and I had been guessing my size (36DD) and trying on in M&S for the past months. So, off I went to Peaches & Cream in the Westbury Mall for a proper measure and an everyday bra. Well you could have knocked me down with a feather I am now the proud owner of not one but two bras size 34F yes that's an F. I can't believe it. I have to say its the best 120Euro ever spent as I look like I've had a boob job now my boobs are in the right place proper tethered by the bra from heaven. I can highly reccomend it, get the right bra, watch your boobs improve:):P.

So that's all for now talk soon.:biggrin1:

Hi roe,

Welcome, don't be shy, its as important to post when you're not doing so well as when you have loads to report. That's when we need the support.:)

One thing puzzles me, why is your next appointment for Jan 11th? If you are not losing 1-2lbs a week you don't have restriction. So why is your appointment not in December? If I were you I would ring and make an appointment with Lu for this weekend. She works every Saturday and every second Friday. You are in charge of your band, only you know when you have restriction, it comes at different levels for all of us but it usually kicks in from between 4 - 5mls. You were banded by Jan so I'm not sure what band he uses or how much is the max you can have in it. Maybe you could fill me in (if you pardon the pun):). Keep posting.:D

I have been lurking for a few weeks. Not being the most technically advanced, it took me a while to work out how how to post a message! I went to the UK to get my band as I didnt know very much about ACS at the time. Ideally I have 4 stone to lose but I'd settle for 3. 1've lost about 15 lbs since late August albeit with a fair amount of cheating. It's slow enough but hopefully it will stay off for good this time. Good to find this forum.

hi Ellen and welcome!

Hi Coco - good on you with the weight loss and the new and improved blingin' bangers.

Dini- don't worry about them - maybe they need some time to adjust..after all it was lovely and comforting for them to have a bigger friend. Now the group status has changed and they have to deal with it (not you!). Like all of us, you had ages to come to terms with being the 'fat girl'....when the worm turns some people cannot deal with it very well.

Kermit

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water. Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
