Hello,

I am 57 myself and have considered WLS for about 20yrs now always thinking I can do it myself. I did and gained it back everytime! Now that I am this age I am starting to have health problems so it is time to finally do this.

I am very scared but it is something I know I have to do.

I have been working with a dietician and we discussed having surgery on the last visit. I am going thru the VA for this so I am just going to start the process. I pray that this is something that God wants for my life, and will walk along side me.

Hang in there, Tatortot, it seems we all waited a long time to have WLS. I say better late than never. I plan to live a long time and now I will be healthy. IKM96h, glad you got your date--the time will fly by. I thought I had a long time, but I wonder if I will manage to get everything that needs to be done before 15 April! Mary, hope your shoulder heals quickly so you can join the rest of us on our weight loss journey. So glad you're all doing well.

Pat

I was 67 when I had WLS last October. I did great and the only regret I have is not having it years ago. If you need any advice or help along the way, this is the place to come. I have learned a lot just by reading posts. I am here to help any way I can, message me anytime. God bless you on this awesome journey.

Hi everyone, just checking in to let you know I'm still here and doing fine. Night time nausea has stopped, still experimenting with Protein. Tried a rib-eye and it tasted so good I ate to much, dumped and felt horrible till I threw up. Ah, the lessons we have to learn. Have lost 28# and 17" since surgery 2-4. Energy level is improving and working with a trainer at the gym twice a week. Trying to train for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in DC May 3 and 4. Can only do 3 miles at a time and need to step it up. Even at my highest weight I walked 13 miles each day so I would like to do that in DC, if I can't I won't be upset, I'll just hop on the sweep van and ride till I'm rested. Hope you all are doing well cause there are so many ups and downs it can drive you to frustration, each day is better than the next (usually). Keep smiling!!!!

Sally, love your posts! You always seem so happy. I'm sort of reserved so it's difficult for me to really open up to people the way I would like. Wish we lived closer--I this k you would be such a great friend to have! Hope you are able to the entire Avon walk and have a lot of fun doing it.

Yea Sally , I'm glad you're doing better all the time! I did the Avon walk in NYC in 2007, it's amazing ,fun and inspiring! I'm scheduled for May 5th and I'm having a terrible time eating all of the bad things I won't get to eat after surgery. Any body else do this?!!! Well keep up the good work and good luck with your training. Linda

Ikm96h, I'm there with you eating things I won't be able to eat after surgery. I am so worried about gaining weight that I started my pre-op diet a week early! Do you have a surgery date yet?

Hi all, a lot has happened since I posted last. I had shoulder surgery , 1 week post -op, pain is winding down, and starting to feel better. We had a huge shock 2 weeks ago , our bariatric surgeon notified us that he was retiring ASAP., no more appts. No more program, but thanks to Aurora Hosp. They picked up the program, hired a surgeon, and had their first meeting all in two weeks time. I'm still waiting to get my April appt. so that there is no skipped months in my file. I hope you are all doing good, getting out and enjoying the nicer weather. Keep in touch with your progress. Stay safe, live long ,be happy

Just checking in with everyone. I'm doing good but at another plateau! Frustrating as heck. Don't have to go back to the MD till August and am trying to exercise as much as possible. Still seeing the trainer twice a week but not walking as much as I should. Am still on only Protein and can eat most meats except steak, my stomach cannot tolerate it and I throw up - yuck. The only major events in my life are on Monday the 14th I turn 65 and am leaving May 1 for DC and the Avon Walk. I hoped to lose more weight before then but these plateaus last weeks!!!! Give me patience.

Glad to hear everyone is doing so well! I'm getting really nervous because my surgery is coming up on the 15th. I have been trying to keep busy, but sometimes I seem to get too nervous for being busy and end up just worrying the day away. My pre-op diet is pretty good; I eat two small meals a day and two Protein Shakes made with Water. I have been eating salads since it will be a while before I get them again, but the shakes are much better with milk. You are all in my prayers.

I can definitely identify with you on the plateaus! I have had several in the past 3 months! Yes, it is very frustrating! I am down 69 pounds since my highest weight before surgery. I go to the gym 3 or 4 days a week and ride my stationary bike at home other days. I have 33 pounds to lose before I reach my goal weight. I know without surgery I never would have been able to do this on my own. I just wish I had done this years ago. I am 68 and feel better than I have in 30 years. We just have to keep on keeping on and the weight will come off eventually.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
