Hello guys. I'm just started this whole process. I'm in month 2 of the weight loss trial necessary for insurance approval. I heard that BCBS Fed was very good and doesn't take that long for approval. Right now I'm not nervous because I've made up my mind that I AM having this RNY surgery. I'm sure I will have lots of questions as I go through this process. I'm in the Florida... Ft. Walton Beach. I welcome as much advice as possible as I prepare for this journey.

Next month will be my 1 year Surgiversary... I'm down 102 lbs.. went from a size 20 to a size 4/6..Thank You Jesus..

You look great. From size 20 to a 4/6???? Wow. Tell me how to do this without having all the excess skin. I'm sure the key word is exercise...but what did you do...walking, weighs, trainer? Thanks

Greetings!

I had RNY on 2/17/14, so I am about 4 months out. Coincidentally, I had knee replacement surgery because of long standing osteoarthritis on 3/26/14 and so far am feeling great.

GW: 150-160 (BMI < 25)

That's awesome! How is the excess skin? I'm wondering what the best ways are to fight that. I'm sure lifting weights and exercise. Can anyone share your experiences other than plastic surgery? Thx

Sorry, updated my HW, big mistake! it was 232, not 332!

Since my HW was not as high originally posted (it was 232), I have loose skin, but not that much. I am lifting weights, but to build muscle to fill out some of it. Once your skin stretches, it doesn't really snap back. Many people who have lost over 100 lbs have had plastic surgery to deal with the loose skin. Other options are compression garments just to hold you in. There are no creams that will tighten skin once it is stretched.

Post op Hair loss, I know we will all lose some hair but I wanted to know how much you all lost. I had my last relaxer 9/13 and I transistioned until 2/14 when I did the big chop. Since I have very little hair on my head about 5" in the longest spots I don't want to be balding. It's hard to hide hair loss when you don't have that much to begin with. Was the hair loss really that bad or is it more like shedding after you have a baby when your hormones return to normal?

That is also something I fear about after surgery!!! But I do knw from others experience that the hair will thin some but grow back later!!!!

I don't have much hair to begin with, but I am 4 months out and have not noticed any thinning of my hair. I am hoping to prevent or the very least minimize it by keeping up with my Protein and Vitamins.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
