What Did You Have To Take for your Hospital Stay?

Recommended Posts

Hi

Just wondered what you "have to take to hospital with you?

I'm assuming it's not going to be much apart from nightmare, dressing gown, slippers, personal hygiene stuff like soaps and toothbrush.

What were you told to bring? What was the best thing you took?

Xx

Here's a pretty good list. You can pick & choose what appeals to you:

sleep Mask, or Eye Mask
Ear Plugs

Backscratcher
Lip Balm

Moisturizer

Breath Spray

Deoderant
All of your prescription medicines in their original packaging
CPAP machine and mask if you use one
Own soap, shower gel, Shampoo, conditioner
hair brush or comb

Hairdryer
Toothpaste, tooth brush, mouthwash
Cotton panties
Warm socks (though many hosps. give you the ones w/treads so you can walk easily)
Sports top/bra or bra with no wire
Sleepwear

Robe (even if you decide to wear the hosp. gown this is good for when you walk around the halls postop to cover your butt )
Loose clothes for the trip home
Slip on shoes & slippers
Ipod/mp3 player
A book or magazine
Glasses

A small amount of money

Possible credit card if needed for TV/phone rental
Pillow- extra comfort and drive home.
Cell phone and charger
Camera for those attractive gown shots
TV Guide or other mags/books
Pen & paper
Cardigan
Portable DVD Player
Laptop-especially for the bored but loving support person

The best things I brought were Chapstick (it's incredibly dry in the hospital) and a large robe to put over the hospital gown.

Heating pad will be your friend if the carbon dioxide gas causes any discomfort in your chest or shoulders... Mine was very minimal

All I brought with me were the clothes on my back (to wear to the hospital and back home) my toothbrush and toothpaste, a brush/comb, my Kindle (but I rarely used it since I slept a lot of the time), my phone and my IPOD (I would listen to music to help me get some sleep during the day since it can get a little loud, chapstick and my hair ties. The hosptial provided the gowns, hospital socks. I had the smallest bag going in and an extra bag leaving since they gave me a lot of extra stuff like gauze (to change my drain) and a cute Teddy Bear that was used if I needed to cough. You'll be tired. I could barely focus on the TV (it stayed off most of the time).

I got crossed eyed looking at my Kindle (to read a book or magazine) because I was so medicated and tired.

I took panties, menstrual pads, lip balm, phone charger, and phone. That was pretty much all I needed. They supplied personal hygiene for me. Best of luck with your surgery.

The best things I took with me were front snap sports bras and an extension cord. I had an incision right around the bra line and it was wonderful to have an easy, soft bra to put on. The extension cord is obvious since all the gadgets we have nowadays don't have long cords. Good luck to you!

Chapstick (Used ALOT)

Deodorant

I did have my Wiff bring a pillow to use in car on the way home to put under my seatbelt.

Paper panties are sometimes used to protect someone's modesty during surgery. Man made fibers are normally not allowed in theater I believe. Paper or cotton are sometimes allowed. I know if I'm allowed to wear my underwear, I most certainly will...lol

Years ago, we were encouraged to take paper panties in the hospital when we had babies....the disposability quality is great, especially when you have to change as often as is possible during these times.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
