Do you think we are more vain or average?

Recommended Posts

There's a good chance it's just me, but I imagine others have felt the same way.

I'm worried a out scarring.

I'm worried about loose skin.

I'm worried about hair loss.

Do you think that we, as obese/ former obese people are more vain than others? Do you think that our perceived failures pushed us further into obesity? Have our personal desires, realistic or not, led us down a path?

Feeling philosophical.

Worry about things you can change and not so much about what you can not! Focus on the new you.....scars will fade over time and loose skin, well exercise and strength training might help with some of the loose skin.

I have to post this: I have to laugh. As I'm reading this post, there's an ad on the right side of the screen for Bosley hair restoration system.

LOL

I've battled and beat cancer 4x--lost my hair twice from treatment and I have scars already from previous surgeries.

I'd rather lose my hair to process of losing weight instead of chemo treatments. I'd rather have scars from sleeve surgery to remove part of my stomach to aid in weight loss, opposed to removing organs for me to actually stay alive.

On a grand scale--what we will endure is a small thing and well worth it in the long run.

Well said Jerygurl, that was such as powerful statement, you are truly an inspiration. We have to learn to be thankful for where we are and what we have been blessed with. There are so many people that want to have WLS but can't for various reasons including no/denial of insurance and no funds to pay out of pocket.

I'm already bald. Problem solved.

I don't care about scars, which almost 4 months out are still purple.

I do care a little about loose skin but honestly, even though I do have excess skin my skin has done an AMAZING job at bouncing back. I notice differences all the time with my skin.

I also have lost a lot of fat in my face which has slimmed down a bit so I look a little older.

No biggie, my partner loves me if I'm a 400 pound state puff marshmallow man or a 230 pound flab fest. As long as I'm healthy.

I am only 5 months out but feel pretty much like you do.

I don't think it is pure vanity but after feeling like nothing for so long and settling, we are just enjoying our achievements.

I think we not realize that we need to take care of ourselves and as our self esteem grows, we feel better and it shows. Also I try to look my best so that I can influence others to also change their lives. The sleeve is such a gift!

What irritates me is that others that are almost at perfect weight don't realize how dangerous the first few pounds that you pack on can be.

I felt like I didn't want a scar on my body. Before the VSG surgery I had only had a keyhole knee surgery. Well now 10 months later, I don't care as much about the next elective planned scar/surgery if it will significantly help me! Because I'm hoping to get a Tummy Tuck. So I pray for minimum scar no problems but minimum Is expected.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
