I think I posted my question to the wrong spot to begin with....Anyway, I am 4 days post op and I am sick of the sweet stuff. I have been told to be on liquids for 3weeks before I go to Phase 2 but this is crazy. Purchased canned Soups are high in sodium and low in Protein. In my after carre papers I can't have black Beans yet, greek yogurt maybe once or twice a week but its the main "dinner" liquids that I'm frustrated with. chicken noodle Soup minus the noodles can only be good for so long. I'm staying away from sugar free products because of the Aspertaime in them and I was as close to clean eating as I could get prior to surgery so I'm having a really hard time coming up with ideas, recipes high in Protein and low in the other stuff....Anyone have any ideas???

Hi, I too am 4 days post op and sick of the sweet stuff. I went to trader joes and purchased 2 different carton soups and mixed both. One is black bean, one is corn/red pepper. They are both velvety smooth consistency so no straining necessary. 4grams protein per serving. It's spiced quite nicely. Highly recommend.

I'm just shy of two weeks out now. My surgery was a little different than the traditional ones, so I'm not sure if this works with the normal diets, but I've found that pureeing silken tofu and adding it to dishes works great. I was really sick of the sweet shakes and I can't have artificial sweeteners, so I needed an alternative. Silken tofu puree has a similar texture to yogurt, but it takes on the flavor of whatever you add it to, and it's a great source of Protein. I like it mixed with creamy Soups (I make potato Soup without the chunks of potato and stir in the tofu). You can also put it in smoothies. I suppose you could even double up and add Protein Powder and tofu to get even more Protein in your diet at once.

If you're allowed cottage cheese, try that mixed with just a tiny bit of fruit puree. I actually bought some babyfood peaches and i put about a teaspoon for every two tablespoons of cottage cheese. I'm lactose intolerant, but the Lactaid brand cottage cheese is great.

i was craving mexican food, so i came up with an alternative to a layer dip that included foods i'm allowed to eat: refried Beans, plain greek yogurt, and a thin layer of pureed guacamole. I like it cold and just eat it by the spoonful, while I used to eat with with chips (and topped with cheese). It satisfied my craving and had protein!

Again, not sure when this is ok with the "normal" surgeries, since these are higher carb, but when you're able, i also suggest thinning oatmeal and grits with extra milk. I'm using about 1.5 times the amount of milk required (lactaid brand), which gives me extra protein and helps it go down more easily.

I looked online for Protein sources. I found Proteinex unflavored Liquid Protein suppliment. I make my own fat free chicken stock and I love chicken Soup so I don't mind eating it every day. I like the idea of the silken tofu so I will try that. I wonder if you put any soup in the blender and strain is that ok to eat? One thing I have been going to when my liquids are down or got the munchies is shaved ice with a concentrated koolaide I make with organic granulated stevia on it. IT IS FABULOUS! I packet koolaide, 1/3 cup stevia in a 12 oz bottle. Crushed ice also works. I am not a chewer of ice so it last a long time just sucking on the flavored ice.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
