Hi all,

I'm 9 days post-op and have NO appetite. I drink lots of Water without issue and the little I do eat is high in Protein. I think it's silly to force myself to eat, but I'm not getting many calories in a day. Should I just be glad I have no appetite or should I be trying to eat more?

On a completely unrelated and yucky note, there's little drips of clear to brown liquid coming out of my middle incision. It's not a lot, I have no fever and I took my antibiotics for 7 days after surgery. Has this happened to anyone else 9 days post-op?

Thanks

Kelly

Congrats!. Notify your doctor or bariatric nurse to be safe. If it's clear not smelly and no fevers u should be ok but just to be safe let them know anyway.

you will not eat a lot at this stage...Try to get some Protein drinks in as much as possible..K Please contact your doctor as soon as possible...The brown liquid is what bothers me a little...Don't take chances with anything that is even a little bit wrong....ASAP...Thank you!

I didn't want anything to eat the first week either. I wasn't worried about it. I had plenty of food reserves stashed around my waist! :-P Just stay hydrated.

Your Protein Shakes should be considered medicine. You don't wait until you are hungry to take medicine. As a bonus they count toward your liquids.

I had surgery about 3 and a half weeks ago...I am drinking Protein Shakes, yogurt, and clear broth with a few crackers in it. First question: Is it ok to stay on liquid for a longer period? # 2 Does anybody have any good ideas for pureed foods?

You can also find lots of recipes by using the search function to search for Purée in the Recipe Sharing section.

Yep it's fine and expected to use some liquid foods on the purée phase. By the way, the crackers are not technically purée unless you are throwing the Soup in the blender with them. You probably don't need them anyway.

I'm day 10 and began purée. My fave so far has been rotisserie chicken with shredded cheddar and some chipotle bacon ranch dressing and eggs.

hi kelly,

i had my surgery on 12-10, so i'm 18 days out. dang it seems like longer!! i've had a FEW hunger pangs but mostly i am really not hungry. i know i'm not taking in enough calories - probably averaging 500-600 a day. the nutritionist at my surgeon's office said i should be getting a minimum of 1200. what??? the only way i'd be able to do that is to start adding 3 or 4 extra Protein shakes a day and that just ain't possible.

almost everything i eat is Protein, i'm on "real" food...rather than chopping it finely i am just taking tiny bites and chewing the crap out of it. :) i do make sure i get my Vitamins in every day and try hard to get at least 5/6 servings of fluids. it's hard though. hmmmm.... hard to take in enough food...what a concept!! i'm guessing that our appetites will start to pick up after a while, i guess we should just enjoy not feeling hungry?

as for the drips, i would call your surgeon's office. they may want to take a look at it. better safe than sorry. i was told if i developed any kind of oozing i should call them right away.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
