Does anyone know how I can get this done ASAP I really want to lose weight and have the sleeve, what doctor in Mexico is good and cheap I've heard some bad stories but I can't afford anything up here. My tribal insurance won't add wls to their coverage and won't pay for the surgery I need help.

I hope you are able to get the surgery, but be sure you have spent enough time researching and being educated on life post sleeve that you know what you are getting into. I love my sleeve, it has literally saved my life, but, being emotionally and mentally ready & educated is really important

If you want it done ASAP, I'm sure it will not be hard to find a doctor to do it if you pay cash. At my consult with surgeon I asked him when I could look at scheduling and he said when do you want to go? This was in August and I wanted surgery in December so I got my choice of date and time.

Having said, I am thrilled to have had those 4 months to research and get my mind ready. I went into surgery with a Zen-like calm because I felt completely prepared.

I know how it feels to want things started now. Just, please, research your options and if you need to take some time to save up $$$ to get the surgeon of your choice

Saw this article this morning and immediately thought of you. This should be required pre-surgery reading for every WLS patient and I wish I would have seen it 30 years ago before I tried to starve myself.

Well if any of us could of eaten tiny amounts of good for you foods we wouldn't of needed the surgery.. that being said.

Our diet is mostly Protein and veggies, just VERY SMALL amounts..

Haha ya you aint joking. And when we say very small our small is maybe 2 tablespoons at least for me. There was no way i could do this without the surgery

I am uncomfortable with the desperate tone of your post.

I decided on W!S a year ago. My insurance company required a 6 month medically supervised program, it took me 2 months to get into the program. I was irked at first, because I wanted the surgery.

In the long run. The 8 month wait was the right thing to do. I lived the "sleeve" life style. It got my into the groove. I lost 40 pounds before the operation. I am proud of it. I can tell you the sleeve is, as we say " a tool". One part of your weight loss plan.

I cal also tell you losing weight was easier before the sleeve. There was room for errors, no pain, no timing liquids, etc.

I am glad I did the sleeve. I have lost 25 pounds post -op,, in just under 3 months.

Looking forward to 2014. And continued weight loss. Slow and steady is my plan. I plan on living a long life. No rush. I'll get there.

Thank you Don.

I will reprint it here..

You should not consider bariatric surgery if....

1. If you think it is a magic bullet.

Bariatric surgery is not a magic bullet. It will help you lose weight but the responsibility is on you to keep going and maintain that loss. Regaining all of the lost weight is very possible and not even that uncommon.

People who do not commit to a healthy lifestyle after the surgery are highly vulnerable to regain. Unlike diets, regain with surgery is delayed. On a diet people usually gain weight back within a few weeks or months. With surgery, people won’t begin to regain the weight until 18 months to 2 years. People who feel like surgery is a magic bullet will not be prepared for the commitment and will end up on the road to failure.

2. If you think it will be easy.

Bariatric surgery involves an extensive process of nutrition counseling, temporary liquid diets, and pre- and post-surgery meetings and preparations. Most clinics will ask that you lose some weight before the surgery, start on a special diet, and exercise. If you find a clinic that does not ask you to go through multiple steps like this you should find a new clinic. A good clinic will prepare you for success by giving you the right nutrition, behavioral, and exercise support before and after surgery. If you view these steps as a hassle, then you are not in the right mindset for surgery and will be at high risk of weight regain in the long run.

3. If it is in the back of your mind that if it doesn’t work you will just try it again.

Even though people like Carnie Wilson had a second surgery, keep in mind that most people do not. Some surgeons will not want to do a second surgery for you. In fact, they may lose hope in you. Surgeons want to set you up for success. They might not want to take the risk of an additional surgery unless they are very sure you did not squander the results of the first surgery with a blatantly unhealthy lifestyle. Surgery is an intensive and invasive process, only plan to do it once.

4. You Haven’t Truly Made Committed Attempts to Lose Weight.

One of the criteria to be eligible for surgery is that you have had numerous failed weight loss attempts. Nearly everyone on the planet meets this criterion, right?! Well, no. If you can’t honestly say that you put your heart and soul into previous weight loss attempts, then you aren’t really meeting this criterion. If your reason for not losing weight in previous attempts was because you were too busy or stressed out to make lifestyle changes, these problems will not go away with surgery. You will need to make the very same lifestyle changes. The difference will be that regaining the weight you lost from surgery will be 10 times more demoralizing than it is from a usual diet attempt. Once again, if you aren’t committed to making lifestyle changes, surgery will not make a long lasting difference.

The article linked from this thread explains why you can't replicate the sleeved or bypassed state without surgery. It isn't just about what you eat but whether it fills your stomach, because metabolic things happen when the stomach is full (doesn't have to be thanksgiving-full but "I could have a couple more bites but I will stop now" full). http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/250331-science-of-why-and-how-the-pouch-sleeve-works/

"Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine."

Just out of curiosity, I have to ask. With all the millions of diet sites in the world, why did you choose to come to a gastric sleeve site and ask about a diet to be followed for people who don't have a sleeve?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
