I just drank half a Premier Protein shake and then battled with an hour of indigestion! Burps and pain! I'm 9 days postop....why did this happen?

Not to be curt, but it happened because you just had 85% of your stomach removed. :)

For a few more weeks, your stomach is going to still be swollen from the surgery. Just imagine what things look like in there now. It is not the cavernous entity it once was. With it being swollen, there are going to be pockets of air (gurgles) all over and as you and it moves, these are going to move. Yes, for a while it is going to be a bit uncomfortable. Let's not forget what we just went through. 85% of your stomach ... gone.

The uncomfortable issues do pass, but I am almost 2 and half years out and my wife is still amused by all the noises my stomach makes. Small price to pay.

It's just weird because I've been drinking Protein Shakes without any problems at all, but this one caused me a ton of discomfort! I realize my insides are all different and healing :) I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem with this product. Maybe it truly is just postop weirdness. Thought I would put it out there and see what came back! Thanks!

Also know that Protein is more difficult to process. Now, I know it is a liquid, but we're talking about 30 grams of Protein here. Heck. I just finished off a chocolate Premier Protein shake myself not 45 minutes ago. I am quite full. From a shake! They are filling, make no doubt about it. More filling than any other shake I have tried. If liquids were liquids, then it is easy to think it should feel just like drinking a glass of Water or Gatorade, but anybody who has had a Premier Protein shake can tell you, they are very filling.

I've never had that problem. In fact it is the only brand I can really tolerate. maybe you drank it too fast? Or maybe it was just a bad indigestion day? Did you miss your hb meds that day or the day before?

I was going to ask the same question - maybe drinking too fast? I am 8 days out and I add about 9 oz of skim milk (increases protein) and it takes me a good 4 hours!

i LOVE premiere Protein, but I find it can be upsetting to the tummy too. I have times when I just can't drink it... take a few months off, and then I can tolerate it again... I don't know why.

My stomach didn't like the Premier Protein shakes. I haven't tried it since my first week.

I agree with Jane, though - sometimes I can't tolerate things, so I don't eat/drink them again for a few days and the next time I might be OK.

Ever since the premier shake I've had bad heartburn. I didn't have it before the shake :( when I see my doctor next week I will ask for an antacid medication. I'll wait on the premier shakes for a bit. I liked it too... Just screwed with my whole day!

I think its volume/time. Premier are one of the thicker shakes. And if you're 9 days post op, I think it would take me half a day to drink one - if I had nothing else. How much did you put down and how fast. Your little space in there is about 2 oz right now.

I probably did try to drink it too fast. I drank about 4 ounces in and hour or so. I haven't had any trouble with any other Protein Shakes and stopped drinking when I felt the full feeling. I also haven't being doing any milk/whey Protein which is what this shake has....never had intolerance to milk/whey protein before. So I'm going to give it a few days and slowly try to reintroduce it again. It just freaked me out. Almost went to the ER I was in such pain. :(

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
