Had a nice NSV today... Needed shorts as none from last year fit. Tried Target first but nothing was fitting right and I didn't want to spend a lot. Headed to Goodwill...found 3 shorts a skort and 3 shirts. Shorts are 12 in name brands and 14 in Walmart/ target brands. I about fell over! Last summer I was wearing a very tight18 only cause I refused to go up to a 20. Shirts are all size L from anywhere. Feels nice to shop from regular sizes again. I never thought that would happen. Sometimes I still can't believe it's me when I look in the mirror. :)

I'd like to add my own NSV's. In my loss so far of almost the equivalent of seven, ten pound bags of taters, (70 pounds), I've gone from an extra extra large (2XL) shirt/coat to a large (L), and from a forty inch waist to a thirty-three!

I'm still losing. I don't know where I'll end up. But I'm sticking with the plan my surgeon's group has given me.

I'm also making good use of the thrift stores in the area. Don't want to spend too much on these transition clothes.

I guess I am really struggling feeling alone in this journey. My mom says that I am getting to skinny and need to be healthy. Funny as before it was too fat and need to be healthy. Anyways. Told her I have 15 lbs to be my goal weight (which is the high end of the norm.). The struggle is emotionally hard and being to eat food one day and that same food I cant the next day. It is a struggle.. The pouch pain is definitely painful!!! coffee is my friend along with oatmeal, yogart, and Protein Shakes. Sugar is not good in any sense of the word!!

It is a great process for sure! Good job!

You mention withering away and I guess I don't have that fear. My fear I think comes from the fact that I CAN eat a small amount of sweets AND carbs!

Sugar hurts me. Sometimes I wish I could but have to find "fake" sugar or sugar free. It is a challenge but I have had some success. Be careful

I am now fitting into my "old" smaller clothes and even they are somewhat baggy! I am down four sizes and 77 lbs and it's moving off of my body slowly.... I have got to get a move on with my workouts meaning more than 1 it 2 times a week! Nevertheless, I have my old shorts I can wear for summer and hopefully I will be buying more soon!!!!

My husband and others tell me the same thing. I really don't have control over how much I lose at this point. I'm following instructions and expect to lose about 20 more pounds which would still have me weighing 160 at 5' almost 7". It's a daily struggle to find what I can and cannot eat as well. I make my own smoothies with Greek yogurt for Breakfast every day at about 20-25 grams of Protein and do at least one Quest bar for another 20. Then try to get the rest from food. As appealing as food was to me before, it's just as non- appealing now. Seriously I could go all day without eating anything and I would not care. I have found that steak cooked medium is the easiest meat for me to eat and digest. chicken if it's very moist, ham goes down pretty well too. I can eat a kids chicken burrito from Moes with no rice. But it's a daily chore to figure out what will work and what won't. I had some chicken salad from a neighborhood restaurant that was so good...very little mayo, just enough to wet the meat, dark and white chicken, chopped celery and chopped red onion. We go there a lot and I'm going to ask for the recipe. I'm hoping if I tell the chef that's one of very few things I can comfortable eat he may take pity on me and give me his recipe.

You are not alone. The emotional part of this journey has been so much harder for me than the physical part. My kids are 17 and 10. Since my husband and I have been together, we eat dinner at the table, no tv, every night. My kids rarely eat in the living room in front of the tv....Super Bowl, New Year's Eve and other rare occasions. For the first 2 months or so, I did not eat with them nor sit in the kitchen while they ate because just the smell made me nauseous. That is the time of day that we spend the most time with each other actually TALKING to each other. It was depressing to miss out on that and I was felling pretty sorry for myself. It feels good to be back in the swing, even though I don't eat a lot at least I am there with my family. Food is so much more than just food. The social part of it is so much bigger. Every family function revolves around food and you never realize what you miss out on when you cannot be around the food.

4 months. I heard this is when it happens. That your body takes that long to catch up to that first month of little protien...and that it grows back BUT that doesn't make it any easier. My husband and friend say they can't tell....but I CAN and I think they're just being nice. :(

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
