Too early for a relationship!

Recommended Posts

I'm right days out and have been in contact with someone I have keep in friend status for two years. This person has made it clear that he wanted more but I just was not ready especially since I was just divorced. We keep in touch and texted and saw each other on occasion. Since my surgery day, day four he has come to see me everyday. The last couple days we have talked about life, love, relationship, and moving forward. My sex drive/hormones whatever you want to call it, are all over the place! I'm feeling things that I have not felt in years. I guess I'm asking do you all think it's too early to be in a relationship? Why am I so emotional? Is this normal to be all over the place? Advise please?

I think that maybe you guys could continue being friends as you are changing. One of the problems you do have after a surgery like this (so I have been told by many) is that your emotions ARE all over the place! I am not saying do not have a relationship, but maybe tell him that you want to take it SLOW, maybe the pace of a snail slow. Tell him you are on a journey right now and if he wants you then maybe he can go down this journey with you. I wouldn't say get rid of him though either just because you are emotional. What you have to do is weight the pros and cons to not only him, but a relationship in general at this point. Your success strictly depends on you at this point, so do not make him a crutch to you feeling better about yourself. I guess what I am babbling about is to tell you is not to make him a your next addiction. If he loves you, he will wait for you.

I hear you! The vets can give you good advice about making clear decisions and why your hormones are going nuts (the release of estrogen from fat cells coupled with the loss of our usual coping mechanisms). They helped me.

Here's where I landed on this decision: you don't need to wait to live but you do need to be true to yourself.

My problem is that I put other people first. Always. And this surgery is a big step toward living my life for me. Getting involved in a relationship right now (pre-op soon to be op) is too much for me to manage on top of all of these other major life changes. Not to mention that I still need time to heal from my last breakup.

I suppose if someone really cares about you they will honor and respect that. If you have strong feelings for this person (I have strong feelings about my person and was afraid of missing "the moment") then you have to trust that all in good time everything will work out.

I used to think timing was everything. Now I think we make our moments in life.

Good luck to you.

ps. Isn't it nice to like and to be liked by someone?!!

Thanks ladies! I'm due to see him in the morning once again. I feel so emotional around him. I need to do some soul searching. He does not know about my surgery. He knows I had surgery for hernia repair. But as far as my vsg....I keep that to myself. I'm not ready to tell many people yet or at all. Thanks again, yes that feeling feels good!

I understand. I'm pre-op and feeling really emotional! I am not telling the object of my affection about surgery (i'm not really telling anyone except my mom and my therapist).

I want to lose 100lbs before I start dating again.

I can say that after my surgery my emotions were everywhere..... I could cry at a drop of a dime......... But I'm thankful I have my boyfriend and have told him about my journey.... He has been so supportive.... In a way it's made a bond stronger.......... My opinion would be keep him around has friends and see where it goes...... As ur journey continues and he sticks around then maybe u can open up more then............. It seems like ur at a good place right now... Ur getting ur health better and dating is next for u.............

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
