Countdown Begins! 7 Days Pre-Op!

Recommended Posts

I've only shared my surgery decision with a handful of close family members/friends & I don't want them to be worried so I don't talk about it around them much, so I'm so grateful to have a private group to share the good news that I officially started my pre-op diet today and am 7 days pre-op! My surgery is scheduled for 13 Dec. I had labs drawn yesterday morning, met with the surgeon and did admissions paper work at the hospital today, and am meeting with the nutritionist for a 2 hour "what to expect" appointment on Monday the 9th then surgery on Wednesday! I'm so excited I want these next few days to FLY by!

I must admit though that I can already tell the pre-op liquid diet is going to be harder than I had thought. I'm almost done with day 1 and I feel like I'm light headed and starving (even though I'm not!). It's going to be hard to do this for 7 days because we're getting a winter storm over the weekend which means I'm trapped in the house with my husband, and 2 boys (age 15 & 8) and that's all they do is eat, but I'm committed!

Any liquid diet recipes/tips other than broth? I can tell that's going to get old real quick lol!

I'm scheduled for the 13th too! I am on day 5 of a 2 week preop. THe first 4 days were easier for me. Today had been rough. Today was also my all day preop thing which was a 4 hours class, meeting with the surgeon again and then on to the hospital to register and anesthesiology. I'm on a very limited menu as I don't like yogurt and things with artificial sweetener. So, I'm doing 3 shakes a day, 2 unsweetened applesauces and 1 cup of broth. I'm using the Better Than Boullion chicken base instead of just broth. I was going to add seasoning to it but it was already seasoned enough for me. I tried the Swanson's infused broth (mexican tortilla I think it's called) and for me, it smelled better than it tasted. Today, I drained a can of minestrone Soup and added some Water and Better Than Boullion beef base to it and that was tasty. Join us in the December 2013 Sleevers Come In thread! The first few days of the pre-op are the hardest, then you hit your stride. I drank a lot of green tea - it helped with the hunger.

December 13th is right around the corner for you gals! It's an exciting time.

Best of luck to you - keep us updated on your progress.

I just finished day 4 of the pre op. Miso Soup and green tea have been life savers.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
