So I had my final requirement fulfilled today by attending a bariatric support group. I was the only Sleeve amongst a large group of RNY's. I was also the only newbie. It was interesting they didn't hear Gastric Sleeve because 30 minutes were the old dogs showing the new dog the tricks of RNY..... <sigh> I know their hearts were in the right place. Man o man though the stories of all the puking were a bit gruesome.

Anyways, in 8 days I will be sleeved.....yay!

****need guidance****

So I am getting sleeved on 12/18. 48 hrs from now I will be starting my new journey in life. Reasons for me getting the sleeve: my mother has high blood pressure and keeps having strokes. My grandmother (mom side) also has a stroke and a diabetic. My dad has high blood pressure. I don't want to follow so I figured the next step is to get the weight off. I don't like the way I look in clothes. I don't feel I dress for the age I am. Ladies, you know the bigger you are the more you start dressing like a grandmother... I don't want to dress that way! **********Things going on in my head: I feel I have an angel and devil starting inside of my head! the angel (skinny girl in me) is pushing me forward and on goal (obeying my pre-op diet) and reminding me why I am doing this process. The devil (fat girl) is telling me to cancel the surgery and stay fat, and to eat all the bad stuff I can and have been eating. I will not lie I love bread, rice, and Pasta. And I think the fat girl don't want to give it up. But I know it will help me get weight I want to be at. I am 236-244 lbs (my weight fluctuates). I know I don't need to eat them but the tastes so good. I am scared of the new journey but I know if I don't force myself to get the surgery I will be in the same weight class I been in with no change. My self-esteem will be the same place! Did anyone else feel this way?

Surgery was this morning. Just made my seventh lap in hallway! All in all wasn't terrible. Had some nausea and took nurse a while to get my med to me so a lot of dry heaving but other than that just tired!

My surgery is 36 hours away!!!! Any and every emotion that you can imagine is how I'm feeling. My only fear is the actual procedure, which seems to be most folks fear. But, I know this opportunity is a gift from God and I refuse to allow fear to steal from me! That has happened long enough. Because of my size, my life has been filled with challenges! I started at 269 and am down to 245.

Once, a few years ago, my son and I were talking about amusement park rides and he asked, with such surprise, "you can get on rides?" I WASNT EXPECTING THAT!!! I said, "yeah....why did you ask that?", and he replied, "I didn't know you could get on the rides." He instantly realized what he said and kept saying, "never mind!" I asked him if he thought I was fat....he was silent! I said, "it's okay....I think I am too!" We never talked about it again and I haven't been to an amusement since. Tomorrow, I will be rewriting my future!!! Not only will I be on the rides next summer, but I'm getting a seasons pass!!!!!

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO BEING ON THIS RIDE FOREVER!!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
