I'm worried: Being banded in 2 weeks but i just caught a horrible cold

Recommended Posts

I have a runny nose and a nasty cough...

I'm hoping that it is gone in about a week. What should I do? will it be ok to have surgery with a little bit of a cough and a runny nose?

The odds are really good that you'll be fine in two weeks. Just try to get better. If you start to get close to the date and still not better, you'll need to talk to the doc. It's funny, it seems like half the people on this forum wind up getting a cold just before surgery. I know I did. I won't try to figure out the psychology of it, but it is interesting. Anyway, with two weeks you have a very good chance of recovering well enough by then. Try and get better. Don't do any Polar Bear swims, or anything like that.

lol awwww no polar bear swims, oh well i guess i'll have to find something else to do tonight.

Thats interesting that many people get colds right before surgery--maybe it has to do with an unconscious tendency towards self-sabatoge..

Thanks for the encouragement, I'll just work on getting better and if I'm not I'll let the doctor know in about a week.

I just dont want to think i have to push the surgery back 1 more week :eek:i'll have to be on this preop diet for an added week as well:faint:

But regardless I'm very thankful that I'm getting the opportunity to be banded so i'm not complaining

iluvharleys is correct.

Airborne will do the trick. I always swear by it. Wish thtat I could take it now!

I got a cold about a week before surgery and took it faithfully up until the day before surgery and was fine. But take it now. Don't wait. The earlier in the cold you get started the better it works.

I would encourage you to treat your cold ASAP. Make sure to use whatever has worked in past. You could always call your doc's offer ans ask what they suggest.

I always use TheraFlu with great results.

Two weeks is heaps of time to recover, go to your doctor if you can to nail it on the head, 'cos I sure wouldn't recommend surgery if you have a cough, they may refuse to do it and you will be asking for trouble........step on it now, and you will be fine! Do what ever it takes

Good luck

iluvharleys--thanks for the suggestion but when I went to go buy some airborne i was told that your supposed to take it before the cold hit, what do u think?

they moved my surgery up from march 26 to april 2 to give me time to get better...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
