New Forum Is (Not) So Sad!

I'm not sure what makes this new forum so uncomfortable but I just don't feel the love anymore. There's something detached about this site and I suspect others feel the same way. I seldom see any of the veteran posters posting any longer.

I see fewer topics started and even then the topics have few replies which devalues the site altogether.

What happened to the "Trending Topics" on the right side of the screen. And the blogs? Now I see very old topics with no reply. Why reply to a topic or a question posted 4 months ago?

And it does seem like many of the forum members who relied on an IPhone app or a Samsung app have now wandered away or just can't navigate this site any longer.

Sorry, I'm just venting. I see other WLS forum members crossing over and most are polite but seems like occasionally a new sleever or RNY'r pops in and posts some nonsense about the band. I'm sure it's the same on their forums where a Bandster posts some ill informed advice or information regarding surgery they know little about. This format seems to encourage this where the old format seemed to have a wall that most people respected.

I'm done. Just sad to see an old friend(LBT) retire and be taken over by a new social media brat.

No, I wasn't aware! I'm not sure I follow...I'm quoting you now. If you quote me quoting you that disappears ?

I didn't explain well. If I go back and try to edit a post with a quote in it, the quote may disappear or move in the comment board.

On the site or app please ?

I've personally never experienced this issue on the site.

Has anyone else experienced this same issue ?

not me........i just found out we had spell check...i must be slow

We haven't offered spell check in years :D It's baked in to most modern day browsers.

Hi Alex, I'm on my iPad -- cannot creat a new post from here. Can comment, so I've been doing that as much as possible for snowballing, etc. I tried the iPad app for Bariatric Pal and had to go back to the web for the regular version because on the iPad I couldn't make the text big enough -- can't stretch it to be able to see. I did go to fonts and made that as big as possible but iPad users are always going to want to swipe, enlarge, make smaller, etc. Couldn't do that via the app. Hope that helps! Also if I click the link for reporting problems, it comes up with a weird lime about visiting the URL where I already am.

Thanks for all YOUR hard work perseverance and patience. Can't imagine the back end of something like this. I am newly banded, a LB Talk member since June. I learned so much here and really appreciate all the of the people contributing. I think there is frustration with the sorting -- all the old stuff and trending topics so old, etc. Best wishes!

Oh, and I am not that keen on co-mingling -- I am new to my band and want to chat with those folks, not read about why some one went another direction. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for all the sleevers, etc., it's just not where I'm at and it feels like too big of a community. LB feels smaller to me, more intimate. I like my peeps here! I want to feel safe and supported with my choice of a band, not second guessed.

My pet peeve is the exercise forum is not part of the "general" WLS forum and not the LB forum, view new content only show me LB posts which I like, but doesn't show me new exercise posts.

I see the value in having a common exercise forum, but I have been posting my exercise threads under differing topics in the LB forum since I am mainly interested in sharing with the friends that I have made in LBT.

So to try and put it more clearly, if "new content" showed me LB forums, as well as general, but not forums specific to other surgeries that would be my druthers. Also while you are at it Alex, can you please settle the conflict in the Middle East? I was going to ask for "World Peace", but felt that was just silly.

We made a mistake and didn't include the forums under General Weight Loss Surgery Forums in view New Content for members that have selected a specific surgery in their member profiles. We plan on correcting this issue within the next 1-3 days.

I corrected this for your account. All members have the ability to control the forums that appear within New Content. To include/exclude specific forums from appearing:

1) Click on New Content

2) Click the last option in the sidebar called "Filter by Forum"

3) Select or deselect the forums you'd like to see in view new content

I totally understand the issues you're having with the current apps. Hopefully our new apps will resolve most of your current issues. In the interim, let's see if we can fix your current issues.

What exactly happens when you attempt to start a new topic ? Do you receive an error ? Do you know if you're using our mobile skin or our full web site on your iPad ? We have a mobile version of our web site that's available on mobile devices.

Please don't bother reporting problems within the current apps. We don't receive these reports. We will receive them once the new apps are released.

My plan is to replicate the LBT experience on here. Give us a little time to make some tweaks and changes and things will start feeling more comfortable.

Alex, OK here's another issue but you're probably aware of it. When we quote someone the original quote gets erased or eliminated.

I believe we've corrected this issue. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

I cliked on this post from the vsg forum. I find it very difficult to know where I am until someone actually mentions their surgery in a thread. Also just not very many new threads and can't find people like I could before. .. getting board and sad

Are you using the web site or app ? This will change shortly.

FWIW Alex,

I think you're doing a badass job of fixing issues and trying to make your loyal members happy! I hope everyone appreciates how hands on you are with your boards. We would never be speaking directly to a board's founder on a true corporate website. (Or have personal board problems fixed so quickly!)

I hope everyone is patient with the transition! Change is hard for a lot of people but I think the fixes you have coming sound awesome and will be a huge help to the people that want surgery-specific content.

Thank you for your hard work and dedication Alex!

I agree

i just get plain lost. i am always using my back arrow to get back to the current topics. i really liked it when they showed up on the right side of the screen even if i responded to a topic.

This feature will be back within the next 1-2 days.

Having read through this thread, it seems the changes were made from the premise of making the sites easier to manage and update for the site owners and not from the premise of making a better experience for the user.

It's such a shame that the glitches and changes have obviously put some people off. There are so many less new threads these days - Alex, I'm sorry but it's a shadow of what you/we had before!

Brings to mind the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
