Debbie, I don't believe I have resriction after my fill for dinner I was able to eat a whole chicken breast and some mash potatoes without any problems. I thought I would not be able to eat that much? Can you eat that much in a serving? I have to wonder if this is going to be enough to keep me losing weight:paranoid. I got the feeling of being "full" but not like it was up in my throat, just a feeling like, I have being eating less and there fore I cant eat as much as I use to. Do you think I have some thing to worry about, and I need to call Dr. Choban so I can get a bigger fill? I want to be at a point that I can eat maybe half the breast and a little bit of taters and feel if I take another bite I will hurt myself!

Lady QT--i am exactly the same way. and i, too, have worried that i have stretched out my pouch or that maybe my band has slipped down.

I think i can eat way too much, too. especially when you look at the pictures in the brochures--in them it looks like that band sits at the very top of your stomach and so the food would have no where to go but up your esophagus.

but it must just be bigger than the picture.

and if you think about it, a fill doesnt reduce the size of your stomach pouch. it just makes the hole smaller and so the food sits in the pouch part longer making you feel full longer.

at least that is what i think.

but as long as i keep losing weight i am not going to worry too much about it.

like they say it is just a tool. we still have to make good food decisions.

if we choose to fill up on cake and ice cream it wont work. i am trying to eat more vegetables and stick to fish and chicken and turkey.

i find yogurt and pudding help--they are nice and thick and dont go thru the hole fast. that light and fit yogurt is only 60 calories. and the sugar free pudding is about the same. and they taste pretty good too.

it seems like a gain a couple pounds every weekend when i eat out a lot.

so i have to try and get a grip on that.

but other than that i think i am right on track.

as of this morning i only have to lose a half a pound and i will be at the 50 pound mark.

but from one worrier to another--dont worry--you are doing fine.

Okay I will stop worring so much, I am eating the right foods so that is good enough for now, but if come next tuesday if I get on the scales and I haven't lost any weight then I will get concern and call Dr. Choban. I guess where I've read on other threads where people eat to much and they PB'ing, maybe there band is to tight, and our's is just right. However I kinda' wish mine was that way I would lose more weight faster "No Pain, No Gain:rolleyes:"

Congrats on almost hitting the big 50 I just cant wait to be able to share that kinda Info with you guys!!!

:welcome2: Sure jump on board!!! Tell us a little about your self.

Well the only liquid deit you have to do is 24 hours before surgery you have to go on liquids only. Now the first time you meet her she will ask you to start to lose weight before surgery to help shrink your liver, it makes the surgery go a little easier. You will like Dr. Choban! Now once you get your package start handling your appoints because the sooner you get them done the sooner you get in to see Dr. Choban. I went to the Seminar in Feb. and had the surgery in July, however I could of had it done before then had I handle my business sooner! Ask all the question you want chime in any time we are a cozy little group;)

Hello Everyone! I have not been banded yet. I just received my papers today that I have been accepted by Dr. Choban's office. My question is does Dr. Choban require a liquid diet for a few weeks before surgery to shrink the liver? I have read alot about this on other forums and I am curious.

Good luck to everyone!!!

Hi Lady Q T ,

Sorry about the disappearing post. After I posted it, I thought that I should make it into a new thread so I deleted it. You're not crazy, I'm just new on here and was not sure what I was doing.:cry Lol

Thank you so much for the info on Dr. Choban. I'm getting all of my ducks in a row now. This forum is so helpful. I'm so nervous about all of this and I want to be sure that I am making the right choice. I am on here all the time reading, reading, reading. I have so many co-morbities and feel like S**T all the time. I just want to feel good and have energy to do the normal everyday things that most people take for granted.

Again, sorry for the confusion.:biggrin1:

dorothyb--welcome!!

i wont bore you with how wonderful i have felt since i had my surgery.

i tried to lose some weight before the surgery, maybe i lost 3 pounds.

dr choban didnt say anything about my liver. but that is the reason they want you to lose some weight before--losing a few pounds shrinks your liver.

see ya

Sue.....2 days till 1st class:whoo:

Angie...2 classes done, 5 to go:clap2:

Morning girls!:D

:welcome: Dorothy. So nice to meet you. As Lady Q has already told you this is a great little group. Please feel free to jump right in and make yourself at home. We'll just call you :bandit . LOL!!

Lady, I did think you were seeing things.:laugh I went back though the whole thread and couldn't find anyone new :Banane20:. LOL!!!

How are you girls doing with restriction now?? I read on another thread that sometimes it takes a couple days for you to actually feel the effects of a fill.

Debbie, almost 50lbs?!?! Girlie you rock .

Hey Sue.....almost time for your class!! :D

I'm doing good with my "jump start". I hate the sugar with draws though. :Banane20: They only lasted 2 days, but OMG my head hurt!!! :dizzy: Not sure if I've lost anything yet. I have an appointment with my PCP on Tue. for my monthly weigh in.

My family is going to be here today to watch the game. (DH and I have direct tv) This means we will have about 20 people here and good carby food of every kind. My family knows how to cook and boy do we know how to eat! I'm usually fine with all that, but I am having some major PMS right now and the only thing that will help is chocolate.

SOMEBODY PLEASE PRAY:pray:.

Everyone have a great afternoon.

:cheer2::cheer2:GO BUCKS:cheer2::cheer2:

See Dorothy that is why I had to go find you. Man I was starting to think that I was seeing things!!

Okay Ladies it is "TOM" for me and it is hard I WANT something sweet and salty (Thinner Me, I will pray for you and you PRAY:pray2: really hard for me!!!!)

As far as being resriction I don't believe I have any, I just eat a little food at a meal, I think I just never got my appetite back from the surgery, I think I will call Dr. Chobans office next week to see what they say. I don't dare get on the scale with it being time of the month.

Dorothy don't be nervous, just do all your research and I'm sure you'll decide to have the Lap Band Surgery, I have not regretted it once yet, and cant wait to get into these leather pants :eyebrows:

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

Thank you Lady for the reassurance. This is a BIG decision to make.:nervous

Today I was on my front porch and the sister of my best friend came walking by and she has been banded for about a year now. Boy,did she look great!!! She was walking at a fast pace and looked so happy and healthy. I want that to be me. :biggrin1: Just looking at her and knowing that she has accomplished great success with being banded gave me some added inspiration.

I have trouble walking right now. I have multiple deteriorating disks in my back along with heel spurs. What types of exercises do you ladies do? I seem to be in a catch 22 here with being able to exercise. There are no places convienent (sp?) for me to take Water aerobics in my area. Any suggestions or ideas would be great.

Everyone have a great evening,

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
