Thanks Deb, good advice. I think I will call Chobans office Friday to see if they submitted the paper work, then the Insurance company Monday or Tuesday to see if they got it. I wonder how Lady Q is doing, we haven't heard from her in a while!

Yes, i have been wondering how Lady QT is, too. She must be doing so great she doesnt have time to write.

i am fine. the first week after my fill i lost 5 pounds.

but i must confess i gained some back last week. I usually do a weekly weigh in on sunday morning. but i officially cancelled that this week because i forgot to take my BPmed/water pill yesterday. so that way, i can give myself a day or two to recover the ground i lost.

at worst i think i gained 3 pounds back. and i know where i went wrong

i bought a Cookies and crackers last week and ate them all.

but i have gotten that out of my system. and i just keep telling myself nothing tastes as good as skinny.

I can still eat a lot, though. if i stay busy, i dont think about eating. but once i say to myself--"hey, you havent eaten lately" then i get hungry. so i know it is mostly in my head and not in my stomach.

so like they say the band is just a "tool" not a cure.

now if they could just come up with some kind of band i could put around that part of my brain that craves chocolate covered donuts!!

I like the idea of a brain band! LOL- I'll bet they will have one someday!

Don't you get sick if you eat to much? I was kinda depending on that to keep me on the strait and narrow.:speechles Oh my...I'll never lose if I have to use my willpower, if I had any of that I would not be fat!! Help Deb!! Now I really need a pep talk. I keep hearing that the band is just a tool, but I was hoping that it would be a magic one! :nervous Am I expecting to much?:omg:

Hello everyone! I have been so busy lately that I haven't really had a chance to get on this computer!! Well I have lost 22 pounds so far. I am suppose to be on Puree food :omg: but I just can't take the texture or looks of puree food even though the taste is the same, so I decided that since I am healing so well I could move to the soft food, so I have been doing a combo of the full liquids and soft food (CHEW, CHEW, CHEW:heh:). I don't have much of an appetite still so I am not getting enough protien, I don't know if it's just my head playing tricks on me to make me feel full after a small amount of food. But the weight lost is making me feel GOOD!! I started walking Saturday with my husband (well he ran and I walked:)).

Debbie I see you had your first fill, I can't believe you can eat Cookies I thought that would make us sick or something, man I hope my carvings don't come back, I have been pretty happy with my sugar free fudge pops, I'll to keep telling my self if I eat it, it will make me very sick, me playing head games with myself:wacko:.

Sue, I'm with Sue on follow up calls to check your status, I even check on line with my ins company to see when the Dr. office submitted their billing. Good luck and hope to have you as a banded baby along with us.

I do not regrett having the surgery on bit!!

Debbie how is your incession looking? Mine aren't doing to bad, I am using Mederma and I guess it is helping.

I am looking forward to my first fill which had to be pushed back two weeks due to my 6 weeks falling on Labor day week and there are way to many people off at my job were I can't take any time off:eek: so I will have to deal with it, I can do it! I just hope I don't start getting hungry before I get my fill, and I am going to ask Dr. Choban to go aggressive on the fill I want to get the most out of my first fill. I want to be a Hot Mama sooner then later:D Talk to you guys later, I will do better with keeping up with this thread.

Lady QT I'm glad you're doing so well! We were beginning to wonder where you were. 22 lbs! wow that must feel great! I called BCBS this morning but they haven't got anything from Mt Carmel yet. I guess it's to soon..not even a full week yet. I will keep checking. I was going to call Mt Carmel but couldn't find the number for Charlene..I think that's her name. Who did you call there for progress reports on your case?

we can eat sweets. it is the people who get the bypass that cant eat sweets. that is one reason i would never get a bypass. life just wouldnt be worth living if i couldnt eat something sweet every once in awhile. but it is best to stick to sugar free stuff for now.

i have done better this week. no more Cookies.

i lost the the pounds i gained last week plus a couple less. so far 39 pounds all together.

sue--you will do fine once you get the band. i dont have any willpower either. as evidenced by my cookie failure last week. but the band frees me up from that constant craving because i feel full more. and it is giving me the chance to forget thinking about food all the time. i am beginning to think like a "normal" person who isnt obsessed with food. and i get a high from the weight loss that no food can match.

i love riding my bike. now i have to get a bike rack so i can expand my horizons. but that might have to wait till next spring.

yes, i always called charlene to check on my paperwork. did you find her number?

of course---welcome!!!

when are you getting banded?

life has been so great since i got banded two months ago. i started at 300 and am down to 259. i feel like a featherweight. i move like a different person. i am 57 and was really getting old and unstable fast.

but now i am moving like i did when i was 35. i cant imagine what life will be like when i am down to 175. i will probably have to wear ankle weights or a strong will will blow me away!!!!

so, Thinner Me, tell us about yourself.

Deb, Right now I seem to be playing phone tag with Charlene...I call and get her voice mail and tell her that I'm calling to see if she has all of my paper work and tell her she can leave a message on my ans.machine because I am leaving for work. She calls back and leaves me her phone number so I can call her but does not say yes or no on the paper work. Duh...how does she think I called her! I will keep trying !

Thanks for the pep talk, LOL I needed it!

Thanks for the welcome. I hope you all survived the nasty storms yesterday. I am 39 and live just east of Columbus. I am married to the best husband in the world and combined we have 3 kids and 6 grandkids. I have PCOS and have been over weight all my life. I weigh 275, my highest weight ever. I am just finishing up my 6 months supervised diet with my PCP and now insurance says 6 months dietician visits. Looks like I wont get a date till late winter or early spring now. I am alittle upset by this set back, but I feel so blessed to have insurance that will cover WLS. Looks like you are doing great Deb, almost 50lbs in 2 months! WOW!!! I can't wait to get to know you ladies and share this journey with you. Thanks again.

Welcome Thinner me!!!!! I missed the storm I was in Ky. for the week-end. I am 39 also w/ two boys 21 and 16. That's amazing we are both married to the Worlds Best Husband:D. Man why didn't your Ins. allow you to do the Supervise weight loss, and the Dietician combine, bummer, However it looks like if you get the dietician done you can be lined up to have surgery in maybe Feb. which means by summer you should have lost enough weight to be ready for "Summer wear":biggrin1:. I have lost as of Friday 24 pounds, I got Banded on 7/23/07(Have not regretted doing it at ALL!) so far so good, and I go for my first fill 9/4/07 I cant wait!!!!!! Ok so Welcome again and do keep us posted on how things are going!!

Good morning ladies. Thanks again for such a warm welcome.

Sue, I'll be praying that you get the go ahead from your insurance company soon. There is so much red tape involved in all this :). I guess I can understand why, but it sure can be a pain in the neck.

Lady Q T you are doing great :clap2:. I am so inspired by how well you and Deb are doing. I can't wait to join you in the loosers circle. Are you feeling any restriction right now? We have a family cruise planned for Feb. 3rd, so maybe its best that I have this delay. We did alot of eating last year :), and I wouldn't want to do anything to hurt my band.

I hope you all have a blessed day.

I finally got through to Charlene this morning and she won't even submit my paper work to my insurance until after I meet with the dietitian on Sept. 10th! Bummer, I wish they would have told me that sooner! I thought as long as I had all the evaluations done I could do the Nutrition classes while I was waiting for approval from Insurance! I guess they want to make sure they get that $200 even if I don't get approved!:) This is so aggravating!!!:)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
