Andrew, what a cool hobby! I am a coffee person who enjoys the whole coffee "experience" The smell, the flavor, the warmth of the mug between my hands, the social aspect of going to get a cup, etc. coffee would have been hard to give up!

I weaned myself off of caffeine before surgery and haven't gone back to it except for the past two weeks, one day each week.

I don't know what it was but I just absolutely needed a cup of coffee!

My surgeon said that the research is torn on coffee. One concern is that it could be an appetite stimulant, but if that is not an issue, then I could drink it in moderation. Usually I don't drink it though. I kind of enjoy being "free" of my need for caffeine. However, if there is a morning when I am out of my usually protein-shake Breakfast I will get a coffee for that energy boost. Not the best exchange, but it is what it is. :-) To answer your question though, I had my first cup at probably 3 weeks post op, after it was "ok'd" at my post op check up.

I'm hoping to continue drinking coffee post-op, in moderation. I've cut back from 15 cups/day (plus espresso in the afternoon) to about 6/day during the past 5 years. During my pre-op diet I'm down to about 1 cup/day.

I guess every doctor is different. I was told NO Caffeine EVER. I quit pre-surgery, because I had to. I luckily only drink coffee for taste and love Decaf. Reading many food posts I realize my doctor is very strict on the "Lifetime diet", which is Stage IV.

I was only restricted from caffeine for a week, because it is dehydrating and it was hard enough to get down the amount of fluids I needed. I am just over 4 weeks out and had coffee for the first time yesterday. Bad move for me, it was very unsettling and doesn't even taste good to me anymore.

At 6 mons post op, my doc told me if I needed the caffeine, do half reg & half Decaf. So, I've been doing that for the last 6 mons and it satisfies me.

Before sleeve I drank coffee every morning. Now I have no interest in in. However I have been drinking caffeinated tea since the first day in the hospital.

No restriction on coffee by my NUT here too. Soon as I went back to work two weeks after the surgery I resumed my normal 16oz coffee in the morning, just with skim milk now and no sugar. NUT said to include it as part of the liquid intake. Read somewhere recently that the caffeine causing dehydration had been debunked a while ago.

My surgeon had me cut out coffee 4 weeks prior to surgery. I did and and I drank Decaf.< /p>

I'm 1.5 weeks out and I will be honest, I had a sugar-free, fat-free vanilla Latte from Starbucks in the airport on the way home last week. I drank maybe 1/3 of the short before I threw it away, but man it tasted good! It didn't bother my tummy at all.

Since I've been home, I have had some decaf coffee, but it gets cold before I can finish it, even in an insulated cup. I drink maybe a couple of ounces and kind of lose interest in it. Until tonight...I popped a 1/2 caff in the Keurig and brewed. I added some sugar free vanilla Syrup, sugar free salted carmel syrup and some milk. Well hello, Carmel Macchiato! It was heavenly.

Where do you get the sugar free salted caramel and vanilla syrups? I'll be 4 weeks out tomorrow, and I'm way past ready for my first cup.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
