I found the period before pre-op diet, and then the pre-op diet to be the most stressful, anxiety-inducing time of the whole surgery experience!! The anticipation of loss. The fear of deprivation. The actual deprivation. It really does a number on your head. That said, once I had the surgery it's all felt surprisingly natural. Don't worry, you'll be ok. It won't be more than you can handle.

Hi there, hope you have an easier day today! It takes a few days for the body to let go of those addiction cravings -- you are cleansing now. Journalling really helped me, writing down my feelings. When I first started the process to get a band I decided to start seeing a therapist to talk over food issues and help me with head hunger, etc. It really helped me to figure out those times when I would turn to food. A stress eater, of course, an emotional eater, but breaking those down further was insightful. Identifying the patterns. All the ways I'd soothe myself with food. On a pre-op diet we let go of that crutch and things can come roaring to the surface. Remember to be gentle with yourself. You are choosing this because you're choosing yourself now, your health. Keep your eyes on the prize and that prize is you. You deserve to be healthy and happy, free from food jail. We all do, and all of us here could not get there on our own -- that's why we went though so much to get the band. Please don't feel alone! Best wishes.....

Many people, my self included, find that things get easier after day 3. I know it's easier said than done, but occupy your mind with other things like reading. Also, visualize your liver getting smaller, therefore having a much easier surgery. That worked for me. Hang in there.

Hang in there. The first 3 or 4 days are the hardest. After that your body will go in a state of ketosis which will make most of the physical hunger pains go away. You will crave food still but find something to do when they come. Every time I got hungry I went for a walk. I did a lot of walking. The best part of the liquid diet is that if you can complete it without cheating, you will appreciate food much more than in the past. It will make it easy for you to go to small portions after your surgery, because you will appreciate the taste and textures of food which you probable didn't before. It will make small bites and lots of chews a lot easier when you think back to what it was like with no food just liquid. Good luck, you can do it.

What wade said is true..... Day 4 of the preop diet ( day 5 now). Yesterday the whole family went out to eat to Celebrate my and my moms bday. It was hard being around food, but I sipped my unsweetened tea. The waitress asked if I was sure I didn't want anything. I ended up telling her my deal. She brought me a small cup of broth from a Soup. ....I could tell it was not a cream soup, plus, it was a ver small cup. That was nice of her. :). So, I didn't cheat ( I wouldn't have). But I thought that was considerate.

What a nice waitress! Happy birthday! For me the Lapband is my gift to myself. I'm so excited to have started this new chapter in my life. Tomorrow is two weeks since my surgery. You'll be there in no time! Best wishes to you.

It was nice of her, and was a very spicy broth (different that what I was having...a welcomed change....lol). It was a small cup so I knew that even if it had a few calories, it would not derail me and I was keeping with doctors orders. broths have been my salvation lol. Yes, happy birthday to us. This is my present to me as well. I know it will be worth it. I look forward to enjoying food again, in moderation, and even good food. For so long, I was on the don't eat anything good band wagon. My hope is that with the band, I will make healthy choices (which I am a lot better at than I used to be), and that I will fill full a lot faster. I ate mainly becuase I was hungry. So, this should help a whole lot :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
