What was worse? Pre-op diet vs. post-op

Recommended Posts

I thought the pre op was the worse! That is, until I got to the post op :P

The first couple of days I was so miserable, I said to my husband the pre op wasn't so bad, I could of just stayed on that a year!!

But as far as sticking to it? I stuck to both because the first one was to make sure I had the safest surgery possible. The second was to give my mangled stomach the time that it needed to heal.

I would say post op for sure. For about the first month.

I wasn't required to do a long pre-op diet, but I did attempt to do a week liquid on my own just to be better prepared. I failed terribly. I was just hungry all the time. I am 2.5 weeks post op and haven't had much trouble with liquid-purée diet. The first couple days it was hard to get enough in, but that got easier everyday. Now I am eating less than 600 calories a day and rarely feel hungry. It's a lot easier to stick to a liquid diet post op. I know that "cheating" and eating something I shouldn't could be detrimental to my health and my healing stomach. I haven't had any issues sticking to the post op diet.

Every stage of liquid (pre and post) was bad unless you enjoy the shakes. I was excited once I was able to start experimenting with food, even purée.

Post op. I was basically on liquids for 3 weeks after surgery...then I was allowed bananas and Peanut Butter. Then some fish. So it seemed like I was just eating Soup or Water FOREVER.

Pre-op by far. My old stomach was not feeling it at all. Post-op I haven't been hungry my challenge is finding a Liquid Protein source I like. The shakes I used before surgery are now disgusting to me.

I can say pre op wasn't easy, but it wasn't too bad. Especially when my body started burning fat for fuel and my hunger level dropped. But now I am two days post op and I can see where it is going to be hard for me. My stomach doesn't want anythng and I am still feeling nausea. I will have to force myself to consume anything for a while, until this part passes. But everything does get better in time, so I am sure I will make it past here too!

Pre-op wasn't too bad for me... 3 Meal Replacements (at least 20g Protein each) and 1 healthy meal per day. Also got to eat unlimited non-starchy vegetables... Was definitely hungry but it was only 2 weeks.

Post-op has been really rough... Liquids only for 4weeks, and I'm not hungry at all... Meeting my Fluid goal of 2-3L per day and Protein goal of 60-90g/day is so difficult when the thought of eating (drinking) makes me gag...

If I could do the pre-op diet forever and lose weight, it would have been great, but I know my hunger would have eventually caved me in and I would start eating too much/ not approved foods, so I'm so happy I have my sleeve now-- every day is getting a little easier :)

I only had one day of pre op liquid, therefore post op was worse for me.

I had 10 days of liquid preop which was much harder for me because I was hungry then. Now I am not hungry and its not as bad :)

I think the pre-op diet was the hardest, especially the couple of days of clear liquid, broth/crystal light- because I was really hungry. At least post op with a week of Isopure, I wasn't hungry, just very low energy. Now that I'm two weeks out- Protein shakes/creamy soup/yogurt, I'm feeling much better.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
