Exercise and weight

Recommended Posts

Sunday I did the Insanity workout. I was so sore Monday and Tuesday and I weigh in today and I am up a little over a pound! Can t be related to how sore I was? My food I take was the same so I know it can't be my eating. It's not that time of month. I know I shouldn't be so worried about a pound but I'm just wondering if exercise causes weight gain? When I was working out I felt fine...I went at my own pace and I took breaks and drank Water.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, remember muscle weighs more than fat, but more compact. I get frustrated to the fact that I haven't moved on the scale for months... But my size and shape is dramatically changing for the better! So why is that number so important to the way that we judge ourselves ? Who knows... Fat girl syndrome maybe? Keep up with the exercise you will look and feel better...try not to worry about that stupid number!

Get off the scale, your obsessing. *NEWS FLASH* Water and food intake will make you heavier. Now go hit the gym and stop whining.

Shaun T is great! Insanity is insane! It help me build muscle. Never mind the scale. Use a measuring tape.

Happy workouts! :-)

First of all muscle does not weigh more than fat, it weighs exactly the same, but it is more dense and smoother. And sore muscles are muscles that have been worked which means torn so they are rebuilding and that creates swelling ie, Fluid retention. For awhile as you increase your muscle mass but before the fat loss starts, you may show a higher weight for awhile, but then the increased muscle mass will jump start your fat loss and it'll be groovy. :) Good job on exercising!!

Yeah...I guess a lb is a lb... But hey when I posted it was 430 am...:P. I agree use a measuring tape instead of scale!

If your calories are still at maintenance or below, you're not putting on fat. More than likely, you're just adding a little muscle and if you've done a good bit of resistance training, you're probably holding onto a little Water. Not in a bloated way. But when you exercise intensely, your muscles will bring in some water to them to help repair and recover....it's a good thing The body is just adjusting some.

I'm below maintenance. Thanks this makes me feel better. :)

Thanks everyone I just needed a little reassurance. I'm 4 months out and I still have a lot of the mental aspect of this to work on. I have 18 pounds to go before I get to my goal weight and I definitely want to be toned and in shape!

You guys want to stay picky about the muscle weight thing than get it right a lbf = a lbf a lb is mass not weight.

I suggested to use a measuring tape, but in all truthfulness I am addicted to the scale. I guess there are worse things I could be addicted to.

food, drugs, an ex-husband. LOL :-)

Ruthie.....stick with it, try not to get too obsessed about the scale, keep your end goal (in shape and toned) in mind, and you'll get there. :)

Meliss000 does make a good point. Obviously a pound is a pound no matter the substance. She stated that muscle weighs more than fat. Not the typical statement we see here a lot...."a lb of muscle weighs more than a lb of fat"....which obviously isn't true. But on a volume basis, Meliss000 is correct. A cubic foot of muscle would weigh more than a cubic foot of fat. So in a sense, muscle does weigh more than fat volume-wise..... due to being more dense. :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
