Ok so I met with the surgeon yesterday and he's leaving the decision up to me as whether or not to get bypass or the sleeve??? I don't know now what is better.... I have no other health problems besides being overweight I'm currently 333 and I lost 11 lbs I have 18 more to lose before surgery....

I personally like the sleeve more due to it not re-routing my organs. The GI tract is highly efficient as is and really doesn't need to be fixed, other than a decrease in size of the pouch to hold boluses. My opinion.

I had been asked the same question and I understand that there are more issues with malabsorption with gastric bypass... Also as was mentioned above, the rearranging/replumbing thing seems a bit much considering that the sleeve is now an option... Then you also have the added benefit of the ghrelin hormone being removed by the VSG and it was a no brainer for me.

This a decision that is ultimately up to you. I was originally going for the bypass but when I learned about the sleeve and also learned more about the potentially unpleasant side effects of the bypass (dumping syndrome) I opted for the sleeve. It has changed my life! The bypass is considered the gold standard of weight loss surgeries because there are ling term studies showing it has good results. Any surgery is a risk and all weight loss surgeries can be defeated if one doesn't embrace the life style changes necessary for long-term success. Get as much info as you can and make your decision based on both that and you gut feeling about what is best for you. (Pardon the pun!)

I have leaned toward the sleeve since I decided on surgery but that's because I was only researching the sleeve and also didnt like the rerouting of organs..... I'm just afraid because my doctor explains the staple line as quite long and a lot of area for leaks and the bypass has more reaearch

I wonder if your doc isn't as comfortable with doing the sleeve procedure.

If not and that's what you want, you could always seek out a doc that is more experienced with the sleeve. Just a thought.

Talk to a surgeon who routinely does sleeves. He or she can explain the risks and the advantages of the surgery with the benefit of their experience.

I chose the sleeve as many others did because it doesn't involve operating/rerouting any organ other than my stomach. I ate too much so making it smaller to hold less food seemed logical.

No problems and no regrets. Keep researching until you are happy you have enough info on the mind of surgery and the surgeon before you decided. Good luck!

Hi! I am having the VSG because I have a seizure disorder and I need my meds to absorb.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
