DFW TX Surgeon selection? (Dallas / Ft. Worth)

Recommended Posts

I've been looking into the WLS options for about a year. I talked to the people at True Results, Dr Kim and Dr Nicholson. I ended up going with Dr Jayseeling (recommended by my PCP) at Forest Park Medical Center (Forest and Central Expressway). The name kind of scared me but when I finally got to meet and talk with him he is born and raised in West Texas. I had my sleeve done on 4/24/15. I could not be more pleased. No pain, no nausea, no reflux and down 77#s in 3 1/2 weeks post op. His people are great and supportive, as is he. You are treated like old friends. I would recommend him to anybody although I can't promise your experience will be as good as mine.

I used Dr David Kim in Colleyville. I was sleeved in Sept 2011. I have lost 100 lbs from my highest weight. Dr Kim and his staff are wonderful. They have the best aftercare. They have meetings the first Wednesday of every Month. The meetings are always helpful and provide tips and for your weightloss success! I went to an appointment last week and the staff was amazing! I also did the swollow test to see if my Sleeve and stretched and it had NOT it is still the same size as it was after surgery nearly 4 years ago. They honestly care about thier patients. I feel like I am part of thier weight loss family. We do dinners, runs and just have fun togather! I was blessed to have used Dr Kim

Dr Cribbins in Plano TX did mine on May 26th. Great guy, definitely made me feel at ease during the 4 month process. Also he does surgery at several fabulous hospitals.

Eight weeks post op - down 103 pounds. I started at 502 and had set a goal of 399 by Father's Day. I made it! First time under 400 pounds in ten years. I feel great. Mobility is much better bi can breathe now. Before I wa out of breath from just walking in from the parking lot bi should have done this a long time ago.

Dr. Adam Smith...Operates out of Baylor Trophy club. Has an office in Fort Worth but not aware where else. I went thru True results and picked him after my best friend used him.

Dr Smith is my surgeon too. He did my lapband in 2006, removed my band in April 2015 and will do my sleeve in August. He's awesome.

My Lapband, revision to Sleeve were both done by Dr. Richard Carter in Arlington. He has also been my general surgeon for other non-bariatric issues including bowel obstruction and hernia repairs. My wife and I both love him!

@@Tazwella, Adam Smith is my surgeon as well and I am having trouble finding any information on aftercare. I used True Results who referred me to the surgeon. Does he provide aftercare?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
