Hello all....... you can go to the Kaiser Richmond support group every 1st & 3rd Wednesday of the month from 6:00-7:30pm. Everyone is welcome, you do not have to be a Kaiser member. I don't recall the room number but I can get that if anyone is interested. There is a meeting this Week.

I had dr elsami in May 2013 and it was the best. By jan 2014 I made my goal weight. I love this man so much I am on his web site telling people about my journey. Go to slimline solution.com and click on pt testimonial I am the white girl the third one down. I was 310 to start.ni hit 175 on jan 4 this year. 2 weeks before my 50 th bday. We went to Vegas for it. And we had a good time! What happened there will have to stay there! But I love my surgeon and pass out his caro people who I may miss and are wondering how you start on this road. I am a cheer leader in his office and have had meeting with people in the waiting room and ones he has ask me to meet who are thinking of doing the surgery but need someone to talk to. I love doing it. I like being able to change peopled lives! I need to become a admin on this site to help me in this passion!

Hi Runnerkellie I am in Roseville too and going through Kaiser South Sac! How is your journey going? Did you have your surgery yet? If so how long did the whole process take? I've been to the info seminar and now I have my orientation tomorrow. So excited!!!!!!

I had my surgery at Methodist hospital in sac. It was great. It was in January. I can answer questions if you have any. Things have really settled with my sleeve. I remember when I had a lot of questions:)

NurseNic4 I missed responding in time for your consult. I hope it went well. Looking back I remember he mostly wants to know which surgery you want. Then it's time to get all the tests done. Did he ask you whether you had an issue with sugar? He may recommend by pass for people who have problems with sugar addiction. Which is weird to me because in the orientation seminar it seemed like the sleeve was his favorite. Any how just checking in.

Awwww thank you @@abordenster for checking in on me! It went well. He didn't ask me about any sugar issues but I do have one! Lol I definitely want the sleeve though. He told me I need to lose 13 lbs and I am really struggling with it. I am eating better, trying to drink my Water, not snacking in between meals and I've only lost 2 lbs! I'm trying not to get discouraged but it's hard. I only have a certain amount of time to get my surgery done because I start back to school in November. He said it should be fine but if I can't lose the weight I can't move forward with any of the other appts. Sorry rant over, just feeling frustrated. I'll keep ya posted. Thanks again for thinking about me! ❤️

It's not ranting. Waiting is frustrating. The doctor was asking me to lose weight before surgery and it was hard. My food addiction and what seemed to be empty belly had more control than me. But I was 240 and lost five pounds before the preop diet visit. The preop diet I lost 15 pounds in almost two weeks. It seems like the high Protein and fluids but not much else diets seem to work. I drank four high Protein Shakes a day and had lean protein and veggies I could eat as much as I wanted. The nutritionist plan is too shrink the liver for safe surgery. It's not a fun one. I had a friend who used Bob Harpers skinny rules to maintain her weight loss. I wish I had good advise. I watched a lot of biggest loser to get in the zone. After the surgery it won't be such a struggle anymore. I've been a slow loser trying to get used to not needing as much food. But I'm slowly getting it. I loved nurse Rhondi at eslami's office but with him I just felt like I had to jump through his hoops. He is a tough surgeon and a good one but no nonsense. I had trouble with sugar too. Now watermelon is enough. When I eat sugar I feel like crap so it's a good deterrent. The sleeve is a great choice. Just be confident in his office and work hard to get there. It is worth it. Now I can apologize for babbling:)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
