Support group. NOT !

Recommended Posts

I have been working at staying on track. My doc office said I should attend one of their support groups. So last night I drove an hour to get to the group. Wow there was about 40 people there. It took an hour to just go around the circle for introductions. Then that was it! No talk about anything! And I was the only person who hadn't lost 100 and they did it in less than a year. Then I found out I was the only one with the band, they all had bypass. They don't offer a band group only a combined group. Boooo. I left there even more defeated.

By going to the support group, you might get the chance to meet someone else who may want Lap Band Surgery and you can share your story with them.

Wow, that sucks. Ours is great, our center has separate groups for the different surgeries and is required for the pre-op patients which means there is always both banded and non-banded members. I'm sorry that your experience was negative because I really attribute my success to being so involved in my social groups....it's like someone in AA, you really need those like you to stay motivated and on target!

Maybe you should keep looking and there will be a better group for you elsewhere.

Hi there, this is my support group -- you! And every one on here. I just looked at your profile and you're down 35 since the end of August. Way to go! I think you're doing beautifully just over two months out. And you still have your whole stomach! The weight will come off but it may be slower closer to goal. We have similar stats and I know it may take me a while to lose my weight but it will happen. So much healthier this way!

Thanks for the encouragement. For the record I was banded in Aug 2011. That's why I wanted the group to be an answer to my prayers. But the people here are truly my prayer answers. This group was only for people after the surgery

Thank you for reminding me that I DO have my stomach. I will continue to use the friends I have met here. Thank you.

I tried 3 different groups and didn't really care for any of them. The one closest to me ended in a confrontation with another member who jumped all over my case for no reason. I'm sure there are some good groups out there but I think I've got a handle on this now.

I tried one near me and didn't care for it either. I felt like it was just a bunch of people whining about all the ways they messed up but weren't looking for advice, they were looking for someone to coddle them and tell them it's ok to screw up. Really, it was just one big "oh poor me" b*tch fest with nothing constructive going on.

This is now my support group

As I posted to Alex some of us don't have the support at home fro family and Friends so we come on this site and I know just for me I read good and bad as I want to be informed as much as possible and I always check with my doc , and I have got so much encouragement from people here and I do have the support from family & friends , however I did call a Doctors office ,that does a support group at a Hospital near me , but they said I had to be one of his patients , he lost out as having me for a client , cause he wanted the whole payment out front as the one who did my band put it through my ins. so I m glad that he did it and unfortunally he does not have support groups but will answer any questions no matter what , so this helps me.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
