I've been lying to myself

Recommended Posts

Apparently, I've been lying to myself. I was thinking my highest weight ever was around 273 lbs until I started looking through all the apps I have on my phone and realized I had been as high as 277. OK sooooo then, a few days ago, I decided to start blogging again. I have a blog that I started about 3 yrs ago. I had decided I would start getting really serious about losing weight and I wanted a place to be able to express myself without fear of judgement. Anyway, was looking at that and reading the old entries and SURPRISE....The first weigh in that I documented was 282.6 lbs! OUCH! You'd think I'd remember that, right? Apparently I've been in denial. Just last winter I was still at 273 though so the good news is this...through this process and just with what I've learned from the dietician and with a lot of hard work and willpower, I was down to 250 when I started my pre-op diet last Friday. Yesterday when I weighed in, I was down to 244. So why bring this up? Because seeing that I've made progress on my own already gives me faith that, once I'm banded, I really CAN do this. :)

Thank you! I was always a skinny kid and was a skinny teenager but always saw myself as fat. It wasn't until many years later that I realized I was never overweight until I started to gain weight in my 20's. I have tried many diets over the years and failed. I'm sure most of you can understand that. Anyway, one of my biggest fears has been that this won't work either. I used to work with someone who had lapband and the only weight she ever really lost was what she lost on her pre-op diet which was a low-carb Atkins type diet. I understand I'm going to have to work hard for this to work too but I've learned a lot throughout the process of getting approved for my band and I can honestly say that I think it's going to be a huge help for me. I've learned to make better choices. I've learned a lot about Portion Control. I've learned to make my Snacks count. What makes things difficult for me right now(or at least prior to starting my liquid pre-op diet) is that with the smaller food portions, I always feel hungry. I never have that feeling of satiety that we all desire and THAT makes it difficult to stick to a meal plan. So once I have my band and have had enough fills to get me to the green zone, I think it will get easier.

Exactly! I know I can do the work -- I already do. But I can't sustain it because I get too hungry. The band is going to help me with that and I'm going to get back in sync with my body. Good luck to you -- very exciting times ahead!

^5 :)

Keep the energy and optimism up. Not only will the band help you with losing the rest of the weight, but the real gift is when it makes maintenance a cinch. Good luck on your journey :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
