front page of the Boston Globe today

Recommended Posts

First let me say, I don't know this doctor and never heard of him. On the front page today it says that Dr. Sheldon Randall has had his surgeon's license suspended. I guess a few patients have died in his care. He had performed over 6000 WLS in 30 years.

According to Dr. George Blackburn (a very famous WL doctor) Dr. Randall's death rates is very low compared to how many surgeries he has done.

I am not a professional at this, I am just reporting what I read. Maybe if you go to the Boston Globe's web site you can read the whole article. Dr. Blackburn, I had been under his care many many moons ago with a drug trial, which turned out to be Merdia. That drug worked wonders for me but is not healthy. When I was in the study I lost 60 pounds in about 6 months by being on 30 mg per day. Recommended is 5-10.

If any of you had Dr. Randall, I hope you liked his work and follow ups because I guess following up is what made one man die at 45.

Thanks for reading this.

Arlene

It can be found here in it's entirety for free. http://www.bostonglobe.com/2013/10/27/mass-obesity-surgeon-license-suspended/uopBPHfH5cmYZJr3BuvWCP/story.html On the boston globe site.

I suppose him doing open surgery was the problem but really 4 patients in 6000 dying is not really a large number since it is 1 in 300 that die from wls. Everyone knows there is a risk of death from any surgery and some have died having minor surgeries. No death is acceptable but it happens.

Dr Randall was my surgeon. He did my VSG laparoscopically. I can say I had surgery 7/26 and was not aware of his cases. I was referred by a close friend who had trust in him. Almost immediately after surgery In was not impressed, I had so many issue with my BS dropping and NOT once did he contact me. It was always another doctor who just blew me off. I saw him 1 time after surgery and was not informed that he was going before the board. I had appointments that the front desk lady called and cancelled. I am almost 4 months out and still no follow up, no referral to another doc... I am so annoyed. I went to my pcp on Saturday and he won't even refer me. Says no one wants an already touched patient of dr randalls... Idk what to do

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
