OMG October 2013 Post-ops

Recommended Posts

Hopefully this Thursday I must say I have more energy today than I have had since my surgery on Tuesday so things are moving in the right direction

I feel the same way Lynn73. Yesterday was an amazing day. and i pooped. That was the perfect end to it. I found i cant drink cold things just yet. Makes my pouch cramp. today i feel great and have tons of energy and im about to trek out with the bf to find this elusive pumpkin Protein shake at GNC. I was really starting to wonder about the surgery. and all the people that said they felt great after. until yesterday (5 days out) I felt like shit that was stepped on and smeared along the sidewalk. Yes that bad!.

That is funny but I totally agree with you. I was almost to the point of telling my husband to take me to the ER because I felt so bad. Now at 7 days out-i feel MUCH better. Not so much gas, not so much incision pain, able to move a little better and losing weight like crazy!

I've only lost 3 lbs post surgery so far. I'm not too concerned, yet. I have had two meals (eggs yesterday and tuna today) that didn't sit well. I didn't feel better until I pooped. Yesterday I just went to bed, today was my first day back in the office, so bed wasn't an option. Just spent some quality time in the loo until it passed.

My surgery was Oct 10th. I am doing ok but I do not like the gas pains. They hurt like heck. I am praying it gets better soon.

Keep walking and moving. It probably won't be for much longer. It took about 6-7 days for me to lose the gas and the extra Fluid weight.

Today I am one week post op I am down 6.8 lbs. Yesterday I took a shower with no one in the house probably not a good idea I thought I was going to pass out I was thankful to get in the bed. I slept for 2 hours and still felt drained. I am still passing bloody stools which I knew to expect from the surgery but when will that go away? Another thing I wanted to share that has helped me is my daughter-n-law bought home 2 oz cups with lids which equals 1/4 cup. She found these at GFS this has been helpful with measuring so you can fill up the cups and know you are not going over what is required. They also have 1 oz cups so if you wanted Soup and then SF Jello. Glad to hear everyone is progressing.

2 week post op appointments went well. Asked the Nut about Flintstones Complete vs bariatric specific Vitamins. He said as long as I took 2 a day along with Calcium, B12, B complex and D3 it's fine. As always, follow what your clinic's protocol is. This was mine.

I've had some mysterious dumping the last few mornings. The working theory is I might have low potassium that might be causing the extreme fatigue that follows the dump. <knock wood> it didn't happen today. Hopefully, it's now in the past.

Wondering if any post ops have any pain in they're main incision area.. I'm 2 weeks out, and last night was the first time I've had any real pain.. Still on pain meds at night, but it still bothers me.. weird.. Hoping it goes away soon..

I am one week out today. Just the right side incisions bother me. Not to painful. Been off pain meds for 2 days. Just been taking liquid Tylenol as needed.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
