OMG October 2013 Post-ops

Recommended Posts

I wondered if losing a lot quickly was a possibility, too. I personally have not experienced that. Everyone's body is so different. Mine is a turtle - slow but steady loss.

Molly

Ive been losing slowly. I have also stopped losing.

Depressing some days. Makes me empowered to change something up on other days.

I have 20 lbs to go but have not lost any weight in weeks and weeks.

Then again, I haven't been tracking. And my exercising leaves alot to be desired.

My own fault.

I am the same way here. I have stalled a lot, but I am learning my body now. I realize that I do lose weight each month, but only in the last 2 weeks of the month. For the last 2 months I lose between 6-8 pounds a month. But the scale is at a stand still for 2-3 weeks. It frustrated me at first, especially since I am 201 pounds. Give me that freaking onderland. I still have 60 pounds to lose to reach my goal weight. So i have a lot more to lose. To help me get through it I look at how far I come. I have lost over 130 pounds. Yay me lol.

I exercise more but at times I feel like Ai over eat. I am getting the amount my nut wants me to eat, but I still feel like I disagree with her. I don't get the amount of carbs she wants me to have. I eat enough carbs to maintain my brain function and that is about it. My meals are Proteins, vegetables, healthy fats and fruits only. I don't eat bread, Pasta, rice, or potatoes because they make me feel yucky. I do feel my body has adjusted to the lower calories and healthy foods that it no longer wants to lose weight.

Hang in there everyone, like it was said before, I am sure our bodies are playing catch up. You know your body best. What do you feel you could be doing better? For me it was really bad for Protein, so I now do Protein shakes (only took me 6 months lol). I could not stand any Protein Shakes to begin with and now I found 2 I like. I also feel like I need to go back to weighing my food. I have been throwing up too much or have been feeling way too uncomfortable lately. So this week I plan to weigh out my 5 oz again. Anything more than that and pure ickiness.

Here are my stats now fellow besties!

Hw: 333

Sw: 282

Cw: 201.....

Hey Everyone. I had a scary moment last week. To make a long story short, had abdominal pains which confirmed by ct scan ended up being a small bowel obstruction. I had surgery to remove the scar tissue that had wrapped around my small intestines. It wasn't alot but enough to cause the pain I was having. Not sure if it was related to my RNY. Everything in that area looked good in that area. The dr stated any surgery can cause scar tissue, which I've had laparoscopic surgeries in the past. I spent 5 days in the hospital but I'm better now. And out of the hospital! I hope everyone is continuing to do good.

Hi all...I have been making terrible decisions.

Im stuck going between 168 and 172. I was so excited, because I was able to buy size 9/10 jeans, and a medium shirt. These last 15-20 pounds are going to take a lot more effort and dedication.

I need to find a way to re-motivate myself again.

Hi everyone!

Finally made it to onderland!! Again lol. I was 198 than went up to 203 argh. And finally back down to 199. I am pleased with this, but strangely enough, I am not as happy as I thought I would be. I am surprised by this. I thought hitting onderland would have me bouncing of the walls with excitement. Alas, it did not.

I am feeling a little funny mentally lately. I can see the difference my body has gone through. I tried on a shirt yesterday that was once tight, and it is a night gown haha. Proud of that one, but I feel like I am becoming more unhappy with my weight as I am not losing it much anymore. I lose about 6 pounds a month, which is great, but the victories seem so far away now. I still have 60 pounds to lose, which I realize is not much. I am hoping to lose 40 pounds in the next 6 months, but at my current loss, I feel I should only expect 20 pounds.

This is my update.

How are you doing?

Happy Onederland day! I just hit it today, too. I've been losing 1-2 lbs a week pretty steadily since surgery. Now that I'm finally solidly in regular sizes (14/16 US), I'm happy. Since the weight has come off so slowly, I have to remind myself to look at my before pics to see that I've already come a long way.

My clinic doesn't give a particular goal and I used to think I should have one and made one up for myself. Now that I'm further along, I get the whole no weight goal attitude. I've got my own personal goals along the way (more comparisons from my weight history like how much I weighed when pregnant, how much I weighed when I moved to Wisconsin, etc.). I've also been really enjoying NSVs. My latest one is being able to get in and out of the hammock in our backyard.

Anyway, I'm just trying to enjoy the journey and not worry too much about how long it will take and where I'll end up weight- wise.

Molly

I wonder how everyone is handling the "how did you lose weight" question?

Yesterday, I posted my side by side photo to my FB friends and family. Lots of great, positive feedback. I've just started to post more pictures of myself on my regular FB feed and many of the people who commented haven't seen me in person in a long while. One person (who happens to be a nutritionist I used to work with -not WLS) asked me for my strategies. I thought about how to answer to show that WLS is not the easy way. Here's what I wrote:
"Here's what I've done so far: 16 months of meeting with a dietitians, psychologists and other medical professionals. Changing eating patterns and habits. Measuring and tracking EVERYTHING I put in my mouth (I use MyFitnessPal.) exercising more. And, finally, having bariatric surgery last October, enduring weeks of a liquid diet, progressing from liquids to puréed food to soft food to solid food that I chew 30 times a bite. No more caffeine, soda, deep fried foods. Probably no more ice cream, custard, fois gras, big slices of cake or pie, etc. for the rest of my life. I don't really miss the food that much. I'm still able to eat out occasionally and I have a lot more leftovers than before.
Most of all, I'm super happy because I'm able to do a lot more since the weight has come off. Shopping at Goodwill and other thrift stores has become almost an obsession. There are a lot more cute clothes in smaller sizes!"

Most people know I have had bariatric surgery. I don't keep personal secrets well. I tend to blurt out the answers to anything I may possibly try to hide. I do also add on after I am asked "I basically eat raw-vegan/ paleo". This often gets me weird looks and I explain that I get inspiration to eat healthy from those groups, and I eat meat. I also add that I cannot physically eat bread, pastas or rice. I am very picky about the food that goes in my mouth, and I do allow the odd indulgent. But that is rare. I feel so supported about my decisions from my friends. So I basically, to eventually answer your question and am brutally honest with them lol. Not that I could hide it if I wanted to hehe

I also wanted to agree with you molly about this not being the easy way out. I feel although k have lost weight, that I am more unhealthy now that I was before surgery. I have had a lot of reactions to this surgery and am having to be literally deathly afraid of trying new things. I struggle daily with nutrition, fluids, "will this cause me anaphylaxis", and am I going to be in pain today.

I am suffering from this surgery, so this is in no way an easy way out.

I found out recently that I have become hypersensitive to foods and medicines since surgery. My surgeon states that I am uniquely reacting to the surgery. Besides the risks of anaphylaxis, I get acute pancreatitis too. Go figure. So easy, heck no, worth it, still pondering, DO I feel so much more confident and can tie my own shoe laces. Heck ya!!

~hugs ;)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
