Hi there,

As people have been asking about surgeons I thought that it might be useful to have a thread with a list of surgeons contact details on...

No advertisement of their abilities.. good or otherwise, but a place to access information on services available to us Brits.... (we are special!)

With this in mind here are the few I know....

There is an excellent surgeon in Lyon, France who has done literally thousands of MID band lap band ops:-

Vincent Frering M.D.

Centre de Consultations Spécialisées de la Sauvegarde

25, Av des Sources

69009 LYON FRANCE

Tel : +33(0)437 497 010

Fax +33(0)437 497 013

www.gastricbandservice.co.uk/vf.php

Fills are offered by the Gastric Band Service he is connected with in the UK and the price is just over 6000 euros for the op. However, he doesnt offer the easyband at this time, as he feels it could not be adjusted quickly in the event of an emergency (if the patient was overseas).

I'm still looking for someone to band me.

I can't comment on if they are good: Obesity Surgery and Weight Loss Programmes (programs) - Healthier Weight Centres, Weight Loss Clinic UK. but I went for a consultation with them in London (they have branches in Birmingham, London and Manchester) and they were very nice answered all my questions and if I had unlimited funds I probably would go with them. Their Lapband costs around £8K but you get unlimited fills for a year. I was seriously thinking about going with them but it is very expensive.

I'm now seriously thinking about going to Belgium. I've been checking the website that Mine put above and I'm going to book a consult with them.

I'm sure I want to get banded but the more certain I get the more anxious I'm getting that I pick the right surgeon! For all of you that are already banded and losing weight you are such an inspiration!

Hi Foxytri,

I had my band and all my fills done by Dr Marc Focquet - he is great and absolutely recommendable. My surgery cost around £3,200. I wouldn't have my surgery done over here as the hospitals are too dirty.

I'm Booked To Have My Band Fitted In Dolan Park Bromsgrove, By "why Go Abroad" I Looked At Having The Surgery Done In Belgium Which Was A Lot Cheaper Than Here In The Uk, But By The Time I Took Into Account The Travel Expence, My Husband Would Need Time Off Work To Go With Me And Then The Children Would Have To Be Left And Someone Look After Them, It All Added Up But With Why Go Abroad The Whole Thing Is Costing Me Just £4950 With 1 Fill, It Only A 2 Hour Drive And I'll Be Away 1 Night. I Would Suggest Its Worth Looking Into.

Good Luck To Everyone

Dr Chris is excellent and has done thousands of band ops. He also tried his best to save his patients money where possible.

Aftercare is second to none at either his rooms in Brussels or monthly in London and Edinburgh. He shares rooms with Dr Marc in Upper Wimpole Street.

He banded me over 3 years ago in June 2004 and I am so glad he is my surgeon!

Yana:)

Just to say I did go abroad in the end with Dr Marc and it cost approx £3,750 for Surgery and 6 fills, Eurostar to and from Belgium, taxi to and from the hotel and Hotel accommodation. The hospital was amazingly clean, everyone was really helpful and understanding and I would do the same again in a heartbeat. I had no complications and I'm healing fine. Good Luck everyone. All I can say is make sure you are 100% happy with the surgeon you pick. I was.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
