Surgery is set for tomorrow morning at 7:30 am. I made it through my 4 week pre op diet, just Clear Liquids and Vitamins today. I also get to do my bowel prep today with 2 bottles of magnesium citrate. That should be fun. Later today I have to take 3 doses of 2 antibiotics. A dose at 5pm, 6pm and 9pm. Did anyone else have to take pre op antibiotics? I don't remember anyone mentioning it. The nurse said it cuts down on the bacteria in the intestine and reduces the chance of infection. I will also get a another antibiotic in my iv right before surgery. I'm nervous but excited. Spent the day yesterday getting everything organized in the house for Hubby and our 4 girls. He's going to stay home with them tomorrow and my sister is going with me to the hospital. I can't wait to get this band taken out. I may even be more excited about the band being removed than getting the RNY. I received an unexpected call from the hospital yesterday. I have always been told that my cost for the surgery will be $1250 and I was prepared to pay it the morning of surgery. However, apparently with all my pre op appointments and testing along with various expenses for our kids, my family is only $83 away from our out of pocket maximum of $2500 for the year. I hadn't really been keeping track of it so that was a welcome surprise! I guess I will put the rest of the money away to go towards my new sexy skinny girl wardrobe lol. Good luck to everyone who is having surgery today and tomorrow. See you on the loser's bench!

Hi all' date=' came home Wednesday night had my upper gi yesterday morning no leaks! That blue barium stuff is hella nasty!!!!!!!!! Thought I was going to hack it up! But didn't! Pain is gone just sore . Did a lot of walking! WALK WALK WALK!,,, I truly believe that's what made the pain go away faster. After my upper gi I was ok'd to start clear liquids , have had no problems getting it all in ,,, sip, sip, sip! No nausea ! Can totally feel a difference with no band ! My tummy doesn't feel strangled anymore! I can breath so much more deeply too!! Oh and no nausea! This feels so much better than the band I can't believe I suffered for 3 1/2 years with it ! This was the right choice for me !! I wish everyone has much success in there new journeys , to everyone getting ready to have surgery soon I send prayers prayers your way you will have a swift and easy recovery as I did! Much love, RNYCHICA <3[/quote']

I am thankful they did my leak test while I was still under anesthesia. I had blue around my mouth when I woke up, so they must have given me the same stuff.

I have a friend who has had band for about 6 years. She never lost enough. She was self pay. I wish she could go back in for bypass, but the money is just not there.

Yeah, I'm getting ready to drink my first bottle now. The nurse said that it works by drawing Water into the intestine, so the more water I drink after taking it, the faster it will work. I'm supposed drink the bottles 2 hours apart and follow each bottle with a minimum of 16 oz of water and continue to hydrate throughout the day. I sure hope I'm not still feeling the effects in the morning because I have to be at the hospital by 5:30 am.

I hac to do a two day mirilax clean out. They had me mix it with orange gatorade and by the middle of the second day all tha came out was orange gatorade so I stopped. When you've been only been taking in fluids there's not much to come out. I figured they do that much in case people have cheated so they're completely cleaned out

I am the exact say way. I am two weeks out and lost about 18 as well. I have hit a stall. I try not to get on the scale' date=' but it just screams at me to get on and check. I have been at the same weight since Friday. It is so frustrating! I know in my head that I shouldn't worry that it will come off, but I feel like the little girl on the Willy Wonka and chocolate factory..... "I want it all and I want it now!!!!"[/quote']

It moved!!!!!!! 2lbs!!!! I think I just heard angels sing. Lol

For those that have had the surgery so far, are you already noticing a change in how your clothes fit you?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
