Laurelle that's awesome for 8 weeks, before you know it you will have lost 100.

Tash0130 I have been to a few support groups.

With my work schedule I have missed a few. They are helpful. The nurses on the surgical floor are awesome. The best nurse's I have ever had. Don't worry about a thing they will take really good care of you.

Great! Tonya the nurse practitioner told me that they may have to delay my surgery because I am anemic. I hope not.

Hi Michiganders!

I am near Lansing MI. I am still in the beginning stages. Trying to decide on a surgeon. I thought I liked Dr. Mindy Lane at Sparrow, but then I met Dr. Dabideen at McLaren in Flint. I am 90% sure I want him. I would love any suggestions. I am also deciding whether to change my job. I was just offered a promotion but it comes with BCBS but they can't tell me what plan and the coverage before I accept the offer. It is a ton of money and management postion. I am afraid that I will have out of pocket costs. I currently work at McLaren and have McLaren Health Advantage Plus-Coverage is 100% no copay, no deductible, no coinsurance, no out of pocket costs. I hate my current job even though I just started it. I would love some input from my fellow WLS friends. BTW I am going to have the roux en y. I am a BMI of 45 and cannot wait for my life to begin!! Would love to be a support for you all!

Mary, I had mine done at McLaren with Dr. Kia who is with Dr. Dabideen. I have BCBS and I had about $4000.00 in out of pocket cost. That's with all the testing and everything. It was worth every penny.

Dr. Kia is my surgeon. I don't have a date yet, I have two more nutrition visits and my psych eval in a few weeks! I'm finally starting to get excited! What was recovery like for you? How long was your hospital stay?

I'm living in Flint working for UM-Ann Arbor and getting my surgery (pending insurance approval) done at McLaren with Dr.Kia! Are there some sort of support groups for after the procedure or even before where you can get advice on how to cope with the lifestyle changes!

Hey, guys! First, Dr. Kia is AMAZING. It is a well oiled machine at McLaren, you guys have nothing to worry about. Oh, and here is a tip that I got from my mom that worked for me: eat Gummy BEARS during your 48hr liquid diet. The sugar coats your stomach and you WILL NOT have nausea! I didn't have any! Three nurses are fantastic, especially the male night nurse! Dave the P.A. is great too. Tell Eunice I said HAAAAY! The only thing that sucks is the food that you're able to eat. That potato Soup taste is still in my mouth-yuck! They do have support groups, you will get the schedule at the final appt before surgery.

I live in Flint also and Dr. Kia did my surgery. He is the best. I have had no complications and I'm 10 months out now and down 144 lbs. They do have support groups once a month. I don't usually go because of work, but I would love too.

Wow, 144! Congrats! I hope I will be able to say the same at that point! I don't go, either, I live 30mins away. If you ever do go, let me know!

Hi everyone, I'm a Michigander. I live in Livonia(suburb) of Detroit. I will be having my surgery on September 3rd with Dr. Carlin at Henry Ford hospital in Detroit. I've been overweight my entire life (cw 215). I've been on more diet plans then I can count. I'm just plain and tired of being overweight and dealing with all the complications related to obesity. More importantly then weight, I'm dealing with diabetes, high blood pressure, gerd, back/leg pain, mild neuropathy in my feet from the diabetes and the list goes on. When I started my weight loss journey, I first wanted the band, but doc would not recommend them anymore because of the possible erosion. So, I thought the next best option would be the sleeve, but surgeon said no to that one too citing my diabetes would better cured with the RNY and acid reflex would be worst with the sleeve. So here I am getting the RNY, even though I'm still not crazy about the rerouting, malaborption, and possible bowel obstruction. Would love to hear some encourgaging success stories from the other side...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
