Hello....I am almost 5 wks post op and have been an emotional mess for the past 3 days. I kept telling everyone that I was not going to change, I would still be the same person but it seems like everyone around me is treating me different which IS making me act a little different. I am also going through crying spells daily. Anyone else experiencing this???

I have read here about a lot of people going through this around this time. I don't cry, wish I did, but I do get very easily depressed and unmotivated and withdrawn (even a little worse then before surgery) and this really bothers me because I know I should be happier and feel better. But i just get so blue and so numb and it is just yuck. So no you aren't crazy or anything, Our hormones are taking a beating right now and all the junk that is purging from the rapid weight loss really messes with things. Have a good cry and try to tell yourself and those around you this is just a temporary part of it and you will have ups and downs but it will level out eventually. And it will everyday will get better. And then out of no where you may have an emotional day. But it will get better. I probably haven't helped much, but you are not alone.

Give yourself time and try not to stress. Your body has been through a huge physical stress. You are going through a huge emotional stressor. Fat holds estrogen so as you lose weight you've got some wild hormone surges that make things worse. Plus, if you're like many of us, food has been your best friend and companion for years....you can no longer turn there for comfort. It absolutely is a grieving process.

You're not alone is right. It's an emotial roller coaster after the surgery. I agree with the others in saying after the recovery, and you're cleared medically to start the gym you will feel much better. Try getting sunlight even if its one of those lamp bulbs for plants. They help with keeping depression under wraps. You will feel better I promise! My recovery time was supposed to be 3 wks and it was 6 so I was a mess. It gets better you just had a major life changing surgery so relax we are all here for you. :)

Do you have any history of depression?

This is interesting and good to know. I'm at 3 weeks post op now, so I'll keep an eye out for it and warn my husband haha. My Graduate classes start this week, I wonder how the added stress will effect me.

There were days I would just cry after surgery. Now I'm 8 weeks today and I'm not crying but can get cranky pretty quick esp around PMS time. Hang in there. It does get better.

Thank you everyone for the support. I feel so much better that this is a phase and will pass. This forum is great and has helped me out so much.......I did have depression issues before the surgery and am on medication but doesn't seem to be helping lately. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon. Thanks again and keep losing...... :-)

FYI...your dose of antidepressants may need to be adjusted due to all the changes in your body. Follow up with the doc who prescribes those meds for you. Also...we see a lot of people in the psych facility where I work who have had WLS who struggle after losing eating as their coping mechanism. It's common.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
