I was wondering has anyone gone on a cruise since having the surgery and how did they do on the boat as far as eating?

Concentrate on having fun, with excursions, dancing on the cruise ship , activities on and off the boat. Don't let food be your source of pleasure on the cruise. Go to the gym and do cardio exercise. Treat yourself to the spa..you will feel much better when return home from your vacation., without regrets. Also, keep away from the buffets, order room service for the things u can hsve rather than going to a buffet and seeing all that food. For the eveving ng meal, dress up., feel pretty and order what is on your eating protocol. Some cruise ships have d inner menus for those who want to watch their weight.. Heathly options.

I haven't gone on 1 since being sleeved (11 wks) but does lapbanding count? I've been on 4 cruises banded. Only on my last cruise (this past May to Alaska) did I gain any weight (I was totally unfilled and awaiting sleeve revision). They have very healthy food choices. We ate in the dining room for Breakfast and dinner (almost every Breakfast was 1/2 of an eggs benedict and coffee. dinner was chicken, fish, or beed + a veggie + rice or potato. We ate at the buffet for lunch (or wherever we were in port). Went to Mexico 3x (different parts) and was full on about 1/3 of a fish taco and a few spoonfuls of refried Beans. What line r u going? Carnival has a chocolate buffet on every cruise and its worth checking out. I spend about 30 mins in line for about 5 bites of over 100 pcs of chocolate "whatever".

Every ship has a gym (we looked at it once!) and there's plenty of walking to be done just getting around the ship. And when ur in ports (where r u going?) there's plenty of walking. Bring good shoes with u!

Anyway, cruises CAN be done after wls. Just pick and choose what healthiest and avoid the 24 hr room service. It's probly why I gained 4 lbs with my last cruise!

Have fun! And relax. Ur on vacation...no need to stress about food...

I guess we were writing our response at the same time. After I hit "post" I read ur reply and had to laugh. We both have 2 totally different opinions on the 24 hr room service. At 11 pm, when in my jammies, I routinely ordered a sandwich (ate 1/2 maybe) and a pc of chocolate cake. Every single nite. Ate healthy the rest of the time except that darned room service!

Everyone has their own answers to questions...thats for sure!!! Glad u had fun!

I went for a seven day cruise in June so that was about 9 mo post op. Was a struggle since it was a secret from my family and still is. At meals I would order stuff that sounded small, normally fish and would take desert to the room for a late snack since unable to eat it at meal time. The server made a comment that I don't eat much so I told him to hush to not make it obvious. I'm broke so while the family (parents, siblings) was at over priced tours at stops I used that time to swim since I knew they wouldn't see scars if they were off the boat. I did some walking at the stops and had some drinks. Being relaxed and off of work I was in the mood for lots of sex so found 7 guys mostly in vancouver the day before and night after but did hook up with a singer from another cruise line in the bathroom of a local bar. So that and taking the stairs rather than elevator was good for wieght loss. I was afraid I may have gained but ended up losing 3 lbs from the trip. I also had plenty of drinks (2 or 3 per day which is a lot for a goodie goodie guy like me) and didn't bother me at all but I know they were loaded with calories. So unless you are wanting to hide it from people which is tough the cruise should be no big deal. I did have lots of bathroom issue the 1st 3 months with things being loose so I would avoid travel during that time though. Now it seems things get backed up so travel not an issue for me at least.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
