To much protein?

Recommended Posts

Is there such a thing? I went back to an old love my fitness pal today and after tracking my food I saw that I am at 75 g of Protein. My daily goal is 80 but if I drink the other Protein Shake I am supposed to I will be at a whopping 105 g for the day. Can this cause a protein gut to replace the melting flubber one I currently have? Is this protein magically turned into muscle and keratin to save my hair from falling out? Should I drink that last shake tonight or will it cause me to go into protein overload and stay fat?

Your post made me laugh. Glad you asked the question - I'm in the same boat - I often exceed my Protein goal. I was at 110g yesterday! Anxious to see what the veterans say...!

You can only utilize 30 grams or so of Protein at a time- depending on your body. As long as your 100 grams are spread over the day like only 30 to 35 at a time it should be ok.

my goal was set and is still at 95 g. No problems here. And I do go over sometimes. I seen her today and she didn't change anything and told me I was doing awesome and to keep doing what I am doing.

My PCP and a good friend who is a a physician said similar things, and also spoke of kidney stones which sound like hell on earth. Protein is hard on our kidneys. Hence all the Water we're admonished to drink. I suspect that in this, as in other things, moderation is our friend. Going over an odd day here I there won't hurt, but going over all the time is probably not good. Not to mention that if you go over, you're either exceeding calories, or not getting in enough fat or carbs, which pose other serious problems.

My nut said that eating too much Protein can slow weight loss. She said about 70 is optimal. When I was eating more she said I may lose inches but the scale may not move...by reducing my intake to about 70 my scale did start to move again. So, now, I aim for 70...

I went to the er today for a kidney stone. It was the worst pain I've ever had. Broken bones, shoulder surgery, abdominal surgery was nothing compared to the kidney stone. I will be following up with my nutritionist and surgeon about Protein levels (I think vit d levels are another concern for me). Hang in there and stay in touch with your medical team.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
