I was able eat 4 ounces today without a problem my big problem has been gas. I bought gas ex strips and that has helped alot. Just walk a little rest and sip as much as u can . Take the pain meds that will help as well. Hope that helps

Okay. It's been 24 hours since I got my sleeve! My arms look like human pincushions' date=' and I'm still on and off nauseous. The pain was actually a lot worse than I expected it to be, but already today as opposed to yesterday it's so much better, is improving by the hour. I'm really trying hard to push myself, trying to move around as much as possible, use the incentive spirometer. I was unable to pee after surgery yesterday, that was a big bummer and I had to have a catheter inserted and removed- but now I'm finally able to go on my own. My surgeon pulled the NGT this morning (it drained old blood all last night) and now I'm just waiting for the leak test... If all goes well I'll be starting sips of Water soon! My belly is grumbling big time- definitely hungry, but I'm wicked nervous to put anything in it so soon... I guess I have to start sometime though! If there is one thing I have learned in the past 24hrs is that although this is NOT easy, I am sososo happy and excited for my second chance :) sending love and prayers to my fellow October sleeves, wouldn't mind some being sent back this way as well![/quote']

Hi, I was sleeved on Oct 3rd so I'm 2 weeks post op as of yesterday. The first day or 2 are not easy but it will get better for sure!

Hi wonderful and strong October sleevers!!! My original surgery date was for October 29th but it was changed to the 30th because of the Hospital. My insurance requires sleeve surgeries to be performed at a Center of Excellence so I had to change hospitals. thank God it was only a day difference because I'm ready to get this show on the road!!! I start my prop diet on the 22nd, my surgeon only requires 7 days on full liquids and the day before surgery on Clear Liquids. I'm so excited and counting the days off on my calendar to the day of my re-birth. :) wishing all sleevers the very best and that we hit our weight goals without stalls!

4th day on preop diet...headaches are getting better. Withdrawal from caffeine and estrogen replacement at the same time makes this momma' grumpy!!!! Surgery is still scheduled for the 29th at 11am. Had labwork and final surgeon visit yesterday ! Getting sooooo excited <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Good luck to all the October sleeves....I'm still learning to navigate this site' date=' so forgive me if I have not responded.[/quote']

Congrats! I was also sleeved on the 15'th at University of Chicago medical center. I had a hard time with the pain meds, they were making me sick. 18 hours post op I was on liquid Tylenol and I haven't had issues since. Today I am trying to get all my Water in and I got close to all of my Protein. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

Need help!

So I was discharged from the hospital today. Everything had been going very smoothly, my boyfriend is taking very good care of me- I felt very dry mouth and dehydrated at first, but I worked on fluids all afternoon until I felt better. I took a nap and felt pretty good when I woke up, (he is setting the alarm clock to make sure that I take pain medicine every four hours... if I got behind in the hospital, it took forever to catch up). I have not been able to get Protein down since being at home, but figure for today the fluids are taking priority. I'm wondering if I cannot do Protein because I have been very gassy this afternoon, feeling like I need to have a bowel movement, but have been unable to do so. I was relieved at first as I know that gas is a good thing, and let's me know all is moving along the way it should, and I do feel better when I'm getting the gas out too. However, I was just due for nighttime meds at 9 PM including my nighttime Zantac and roxicet... I took 1/2 of a sip of my Zantac (ranitidine) dose first, but then my mouth started watering and I felt like I was going to be sick to my stomach... Frankly the liquid medicine tastes sooo sooo bad!!! I'm not sure if it was the taste or the gas, but I knew I wasn't going to have an easy time with the roxicet, so I waited as long as possible and finally took it quickly (was only 10ml)... Immediately after taking it, my mouth started watering and I had to run to the bathroom where I started to throw up, however even though I just taken the red medicine I only dry heaved out clear spit... My fingers crossed the dry heaving didn't do damage to my sleeve!

Anyone else have this experience? How/ what did you do?

Any ideas for what to mix the meds in so they are more tolerable?

Do you think it's just the gas that made it bad (I had been taking them oK at hospital, sure gross taste but no throwing up)? Any suggestions for that?

I'm also wondering if I should think about asking my surgeon for a completely different acid reducer, such as Prevacid (dissolves in mouth)...

Any thoughts/ suggestions are appreciated, as although I'm so happy with my new sleeve, Its still so new, so I'm nervous!

Thanks!!!

-Meg

So sorry to hear that you are having trouble... My surgeon prescribed a drug called Pantoprazole sodium which is an acid reducer & it's in a really small pill form. Hope this helps!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
