day 1 of pre op liquid diet...failed already..

Recommended Posts

I have been very nervous about all this, my surgery is scheduled for 9/9.

So scary but the end result will be better than what we have all muddled through so far.

The dietitian told me the first 3-4 day are the worst of the 2 week diet that I'll be starting soon.

I'm planning on keeping my self busy with small things around the house to distract my frustration of a low calorie diet. I also have lots of YouTube videos book marked for helpful hints on how others made it through this. Along with probably tons of hours of reading things on this website.

You can do this, we all stumble pick yourself up & brush yourself off tomorrow is a new day! Good luck. :)

Today is day 1 of a 3week pre op liquid diet with Protein shakes' date=' sugar free beverages and sugar free popsicles and ive failed already... i got through Breakfast shake and lunch=shake+chicken broth and then caved an hour later and ended up eating tequitos and a double chocolate muffin...How in the frig am i supposed to do a liquid diet for 3 weeks to shrink my liver? If it was slim fast plus regular juice i could do it...but I hate hate hate(gag) my Protein Shake powder..it tastes like koolaid thats chalky thats been overly sweetned...think Syntrax Protein juice in strawberry kiwi..it is sooo disgustingly sweet...i hate it and i have a large tubb of it!

How do you survive this? How does anyone? I feel so "empty" in my stomach all day...and how do you survive when you have a husband and child that eats anything in front of you and buys junkfood?[/quote']

The premiere Protein shakes at costco are actually pretty good in chocolate. nectar lemon tea flavor is very lightly sweetened and taste a slight lemon flavor... But here is how I survived it... Cottage cheese... It was my best friend. One cup of nonfat cottage cheese has the same calories as the shake and as much protein so it's the non sweet in my day which was a great thing... Also there is a Tomato Soup low calorie and sugar at target. It's in a blue box and called simply tomato basil I'd run that through a blender and measure out one serving of that with 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and it was like eating what I called lasagna soup.. Lol it again has the same calories as the shakes difference is its only 12 grams of protein which is where the lemon tea flavor nectar came in to play I'd have that together it was like having iced tea with my lasagna. I'd also eat Jello or I made protein pudding using the nectar medical unflavored Protein Powder and sugar free pudding with almond milk and Greek yogurt so that it will set... I lost my pre surgery weight plus some. I really had to get creative but it worked well to not have only sweet all the time!

I started my diet over today and spent half of the day cleaning my house and when my husband came home, he told me that i was very productive and amazed at a clean house and i told him: "well i cant eat..so i got to do somthing with all my time"

Hang in there girly! Keep your eye on the prize and try to stay busy. I start my liquids soon too (we are both 9/11 sleevers!) so you'll have to remind me of the same thing!

Not sure what your guidelines are' date=' but I basically harassed my surgeon until he told me what guidelines to stick to. The sheet he gave listed 5 powders I could choose from, sf popsicles, broth, bullion, Jello, and something else. I went through it all with hi, told him that I needed more variety and left with the following mod to my 2 week liquid diet.

ANY Protein shakes/protein waters, liquids, etc as long as I stick to this each day:

65-80g Protein

700-900 calories

50g or less carbs

I think this will be easier and ill have more choices. I also went to NashuaNutrition.com and

Ordered 30 flavors of protein powder (sample pks are 2 each).

Good luck!

We have a similar plan...mine allows for 4 protein shakes a day( must be low carb and sugar free) and then sf Jello, broth, popsicles and Water. Mine totalled up to : 645 cals, 8 grams net carbs and 66grams of protein.

I am pasting in a link from the Vitamin Shoppe for Dynmatize shakes. I particularly like the cafe mocha flavor. I found this brand to be more satisfying than the Syntrax although I used their vanilla Cream Wafer flavor too. If you have several flavors on hand the variety helps get you thru. Also ask your Dr and Nut if you can have some green veggies. I was allowed this but every program is different. I oven roast my veggies at dinner so I had something to eat and that really helped me get through it. The first 5 days though I was a total basket case. Hang in there, you can do it!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
