Sooooo over it

I have been so patient and kept telling myself that i will lose weight and break this stall but honestly this is ridiculous. I am exercising, eating 800-1000 calories (as per dietician advice) and I drink 2 ltrs of Water every day. I feel so disheartened about the whole thing. I thought I'd broken the stall but now I've actually put on weight.

I really don't want to vent but I have no family to talk to about this and I don't really want to bother my friends about it as they just probably think all I do is talk about weight and the sleeve.

I work extremely long hours so I can't join a group either but I want to know how to break this stall 6 weeks now :(

You said u work extremely long hours - how well do u sleep? I'm going through a period of intense study and not getting enough sleep the past few weeks and my weight has been whacky - not so much a "stall" as a "kangaroo", as it bounced around within a couple of kilo range. I believe the research is "in" about sleep and weight, so it might be worth making an effort to ensure you are getting enough sleep.

Good point about the sleep! I think that definitely contributed to it.

I feel so disheartened about the whole thing - stall :(

k8ee

sorry you've been in a 6 week stall

venting is good - gets it out of your system for the minute

I agree with Sydney Susan that getting more sleep sure couldn't hurt!!!

you'll probably feel better in the morninh

it must be hard when you don't have anyone "in person" you can talk/vent to about your situation :(

but..........."we're" here

looks like you are following all the rules, waiting up to an hour after you eat before you drink again -

drinking plenty of Water, getting in proper calories and exercise too!!!!

you are doing great!!!!

this stall will break!!!! it has too

telling you to "just hang in there", well its true - but........easier said than done!!

People have said something like shake up things a bit

"maybe" increase your calories

IMO by the time you do that - and maybe it will be successful - the stall might have run its course anyways

wish i knew how far out you are, how much weight you've lost from a profile, ticker  hint, hint ;)

this info helps OP give suggestion/help

besides "we're nosey"

I know things will work out!!!!

I feel it in my bones!!!!

good luck :)

I feel your pain, I'm almost 9 weeks out and I've been stalled for a total of 7 weeks. However, my inch loss has been awesome.

Have you lost many inches? I don't measure myself but I just gave away 3 large trashbags full of clothes that no longer fit. Creating a whole new problem I don't mind. I'm down 2 sizes (almost 3) so I know my body is working.

Keep up the hard work and eventually this will break. I know Cheri had 2 - 9 week stalls during her loss phase. So you're not alone. Hugs to you!!

A few questions:

When was your surgery?

Are you logging what you eat in something like MFP?

How much Protein are you getting per day?

What are you doing for workouts and what is your average heart rate while you're doing it?

Are you measuring yourself?

To answer your questions..

When was your surgery? 3 and a half mo this ago.

I log everything in MFP daily.

I get in 80 grams or more of Protein a day.

Workouts consist of treadmill, bike, cross trainer and swimming x 4-5 times a week + on the weekend a 2 hour session.

I also do toning sessions. My heart rate is normally up at 160-170 during cardio workouts.

I don't measure myself but I don't feel different in my clothes.

That's not a stall. That's just your body recovering from surgery :)

Stalls happen and I agree that it's challenging to remain optimistic when they drag on, but they are a part of the process for most of us. I had two nine week stalls. The queen of all stalls is still coops - 21 MONTHS of her doing the same good things and not a ounce of loss. She did lose two sizes during that time and did eventually break through and is on her way to goal.

The best way to avoid the discouragement - something I face, too, trying to lose baby pounds - is to just accept that you will not see a loss every time you step on the scale. Sometimes it even goes up - I gain after any strenuous workout and I also gain about four pounds during my cycle. If I don't sleep well for a period of time? I gain, and I absolutely don't lose until I'm well rested again.

Long story short, there are about a million tiny little ways for your weight to be affected by what else is going on in your life besides diet. Stress, hormones, lack of sleep, etc. all contribute to the ups and downs we experience.

You know that you are going to lose weight. The issue here is that you want instant gratification and reassurance that your hard work is paying off. Sometimes that's slower coming than we'd like!

Hang in there. Really. Don't quit. No offense, but you can't get over this, get mad and quit - you had a major operation to remove most of your stomach. The only way to the end is forward, no matter how slowly you plod there. Rest assured that you aren't alone. You are in good company, in fact! Stop reading the "I lost seventy two pounds in five minutes!" posts and you'll feel better. Seek out other slower losers or commiserate with other people in a stall right now. Above all else, keep doing what you're doing. Eventually you will see the reward for your hard work both on the scale and in the mirror.

~Cheri

Thanks for the encouragement. It's very hard to wrap my head around and sometimes compare to bigger losers which is not the way to go I know. I will obviously keep losing but when, who knows!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
